WEEK 3

Another week, another set of bodies to add to the pile. Two lured in by The Lady's machinations, and another two done in by misfortune; six of your number are dead already. Who knows who it will be the next time? And for what reason? Nevertheless, there’s no choice but to keep pushing on in your own way; whether that means barricading yourself inside your room for the rest of your stay, leaving artwork of your fellow Survivors around the housing area, or eating all the raw meat in the vicinity… well, everyone deals with things differently.

Either way, you understand the drill by now, yes? Another portion of the city reveals itself as the fog retreats yet again, lampposts lighting the way to the new areas as usual. The full moon wanes to half this week too, so make the most of it.

Do ya think anyone asked why Rembrandt is workin’ with the Lady? Doesn’t seem like it’s for his convenience.

Maybe people have. But...you're right in that it's certainly a question to ask.

Though, I actually think he's definitely trying to get something out of it. It'd be kind of a miracle if he says what it is, but if somehow I'll ever find out, I'll tell you and the others, alright?

I agree with ya on that account too. He’s gotta be getting something, but it’s hard to say if it’s something that already happened and he’s paying it off now or paying first and then will get the reward?

[Maybe the Lady promised him something for helping, or he’s paying off a debt he already owes? It would have to be something big, regardless.]

I never thought about it being as him paying something off. If it's a debt he owed her, though, I could see it easily.

Though it'd be better not to decide on which one was true until we've got an answer.

True, assumptions might not let us see clearly later, if we get too stuck in one view. That can happen sometimes when diagnosing illnesses too.

That's right. Though, you sound like you have a lot of experience with the latter, I'm assuming?

Your profile did seem to define you as an Apothecary.

Yeah! Apothecaries diagnose illnesses or treat injuries, and create medicine. It's a lotta reading up and knowing what materials are useful for what things, but it's really rewarding too, ya know?

I think I can imagine as much.

Is that also why you became one?

When I was young, a travellin' apothecary came to my village and saved me and some others from this really bad illness. We weren't well off at all, bein' from such a small town an all, but when my mom tried ta pay him, he wouldn't have it. Said it was enough to know I'd get better. So I decided I was gonna become an apothecary too, and help anyone who needs it! Just 'cause someone can't pay, doesn't mean they should be left to suffer.

[ That's not exactly what Rean had expected to hear, but it was quite the story... ]

Alfyn...I'm happy to know that things turned out well for you in a situation like that. And that you decided to embrace what you're doing now.

I'm sure that whoever you've helped so far would say and think the same.

I hope so! I've been traveling around to help people like he did, and hoping maybe I'll run into him and can thank him properly.
