WEEK 3

WEEK 3

Another week, another set of bodies to add to the pile. Two lured in by The Lady's machinations, and another two done in by misfortune; six of your number are dead already. Who knows who it will be the next time? And for what reason? Nevertheless, there’s no choice but to keep pushing on in your own way; whether that means barricading yourself inside your room for the rest of your stay, leaving artwork of your fellow Survivors around the housing area, or eating all the raw meat in the vicinity… well, everyone deals with things differently.

Either way, you understand the drill by now, yes? Another portion of the city reveals itself as the fog retreats yet again, lampposts lighting the way to the new areas as usual. The full moon wanes to half this week too, so make the most of it.

[[Welcome to Week 3! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 3 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

[ He'll go and see about grabbing himself a glass while he was speaking to the other. ]

...It's about last week. I was worried about how things got in the trial and I'm not just talking about the reveal.

[ Of course he was always worried about various things, including murder, but... ]

You did well at least a good part of the trial, honestly, and I'm grateful that you were able to help during the investigation, it just seemed you managed to make a lot of people angry with what you did. I mean more specifically when you had been throwing around a few threats, that is.
pr159: (please just go)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-22 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
[ Of course. He sighs. ]

Yes. And?

[ ... ]

...I had been wondering if you were planning to do that again.
pr159: (it's more that you're not needed)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-23 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's already done, for the most part, so we shouldn't have to spend that much time on it again -- like I said then, getting it out of the way for next time. There are only a handful left that we don't know at this point.

[ He'll release a small sigh of sorts.

Well, it was what it was. ]

With time, we'll likely find out what those are soon enough, I suppose.
pr159: (your cut is nothing)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-23 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He smiles, giving a slight shrug. ]

Hopefully before they kill someone with them.

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-24 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm hoping the same.

[ Rean actually also hoped no one died this week but he wasn't about to be sure that was even possible. ]

...Do you have a recommendation of something to try? It's been awhile since I've been in a bar like this.
pr159: (sell us things which are already ours)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-24 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ got some bad news for you, buddy......... ]

Well, I'm not making any fancy mixed drinks.

[ So, not really. ]

What type of liquor do you usually prefer? I assume it hasn't been too long for you to remember that; aren't you just barely of age?

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-24 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ rip in riperoni. . . ]

I don't think my palate's that refined, so that's alright with me.

[ Though, Rean would nod at the other's question. He's 20 years old now, though sometimes even for him that's hard to believe. ]

I guess Whiskey would do just fine. But, I am open to try something new, as long as it's nothing too strong.
pr159: (who live their lives)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-24 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say those are usually better for unrefined palates, since the added flavors often do something to mask the taste of the alcohol itself. Young and inexperienced types tend to favor drowning in grenadine, from what I've seen.

[ He kind of raises an eyebrow at that being the apparent default, since it's not like straight whiskey isn't relatively strong. Was that just the first thing to come to mind?

...Well, even though he said he wasn't going to do any mixed drinks, he'll do a minimum-effort one here and throw together some dark rum and ginger beer. (Assuming this bar has ginger beer... if not I will retcon this to another drink I guess lmao.)

He slides it over. ]

Here.

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-25 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
...Haha, I don't drink a lot, so I can't say, but I think I'll take your word for it, seeing as you're more experienced here.

[ It really was just the first thing that had come to mind. He also had possibly some of his co-workers to blame...!

He'll give the drink a try nonetheless, and then smile a little. ]

It's good. Did you pick up on learning how to do this from someone back home?
pr159: (whatever cat-hating god cats pray to)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-25 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's not oversell this, I just poured two things into a glass.

[ That doesn't really require teaching. ]

But yes, there's a bar in my world that I spend a good deal of time in, so I'm at least familiar with what goes into a number of cocktails.
reanbeans: (35)

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-27 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose that's true.

[ He'll take another sip from the drink again. ]

...What do you like the most about bars, anyway? Besides making or having a nice drink?

[ Rean thought a little on the subject himself and some preferred a quieter aspect, louder aspect, company, or other such things, so he was curious. ]
pr159: (this is how they talk about me)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-27 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
There has to be a "besides"?

[ There is one, but it isn't something he's really bothered to put into words before, so he has to think it over for a moment. ]

I don't know. I like the atmosphere and the aesthetic, I suppose.

[ Warm and cozy and a little dangerous all at the same time, simultaneously trashy and sophisticated, and the people there are usually at their most pliant, which had often come in handy when he was young. (Far too young to have been legally allowed into that bar, but Duval wasn't exactly a place where business owners cared about staying on the up-and-up if it didn't hurt their bottom line.)

He finds a bottle of brandy and pours a bit into a glass for himself. ]

The one I usually go to has the added bonus of being in my hometown.

[ One might assume he's going to follow this up by explaining that he likes being around old friends or something, but instead-- ]

So everyone who used to look down on me has to see how far I've risen above all of them.

[ And everyone who used to pay him for illicit jobs can be reminded that he has the power to destroy their lives at any moment, but he's probably not going to bring that part into this. ]

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-27 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Rean would just smile sheepishly at the question, but he's glad to see that Rideaux would go ahead to go about answering it.

He's attentive as he usually was when someone spoke, and then took a sip of his own drink again around the time the other began pouring his brandy. ]

...It does sound nice to have been able to be around in a place that was likely a bit nostalgic.

[ Rean could only think there were at least some fond memories to be had. How could there not have been? He wondered vaguely on what type of people must've looked down on the other. Rideaux certainly didn't seem like a saint, but Rean didn't exactly think it was nice for people to do the same to others. ]

And I suppose it's good to have a reminder of your starting point to how far you've gotten, despite the difficulties.
pr159: (let mine not be counted among them)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-27 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[ His eyes narrow slightly as he puts the bottle away. ]

I don't need the reminder. And nostalgia has very little to do with it.

[ That implies more good memories than he actually has. And even the ones he does have -- like the drunken nights out he used to spend with Julius before he decided to reinvent himself as an upstanding family man -- usually just make him angry when he thinks about them now. ]

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-28 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
...Sorry for assuming as much then.

[ Rean had no idea the story of the man and his circumstances that could've surrounded the subject, but he figured an apology might be necessary. ]

pr159: (you can't change the system)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-28 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
What are you apologizing for?
reanbeans: (92)

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-28 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
...?

[ ... ]

...Oh, because it seemed like I may have overstepped by saying that. I don't really know your experiences, after all.
pr159: (please just go)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-28 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
[ ...He takes a sip from his glass and sighs. It's not like this had ever been much of a secret back home anyway; it's always been part of his lore, so to speak, and something that contributed to how well-respected he was, whether people actually liked him or not. ]

Well, if you want to know, I lived on the street for several years, until I got hired as a Spirius agent when I was twelve. That bar was a good place to find the kinds of jobs that didn't get advertised on the job boards, and it was somewhere to go on cold nights where you didn't have to worry about being kicked out for being too dirty or not having enough money.

[ He had...actually been curious. So he was glad Rideaux had volunteered that information of his free will, because Rean didn't want to seem rude just prying. ]

...I see. It sounds like it was difficult experience, so I appreciate you being able to tell me this, at least.
pr159: (but things don't work that way)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-29 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
It's not like it's a secret.

[ shrug. ]

Anyway, much like how walking barefoot over jagged rocks for long enough will toughen your soles, I like to think I'm pretty difficult to break at this point, so. There is that.

[ So you probably don't want to target him. Just saying. ]
