WEEK 2

WEEK 2

The first week is over, and two of your number are gone. Everything related to the case has been cleaned up, with nary a knife left at the Main Square nor a trace of the mud shapes that once painted the clock tower walls, although some stray graffiti still dots some storefronts.

However you may feel about the entire debacle on Friday, there’s no doubt that something has changed about the atmosphere, although whether it’s something tangible or just a trick of the mind is hard to say. Maybe it’s nothing. Either way, there are more palpable changes to the city, with some of the fog retreating away from a few of the surrounding areas, uncovering new buildings and streets along the way. The night, however, remains unchanged as always save for the slow waxing of the moon, leaving it bright and full as early as Thursday night. Regardless of if you take it as an omen or not, at least that means the streets will be lit up fairly well for the week, provided some inconvenient cloud cover doesn’t slide right in.

[[Welcome to Week 2! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 2 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

[Okay, that's a fair point... But Rean, does this man look the kind of person who can fight?]

Ah, no. My robots do the fighting for me, but naturally I don't have access to them. This is exactly the reason why I didn't want to go down there by myself.

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-16 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It's too bad you don't have access to them here. I figure they'd be a really huge asset...

[ No...he looked like a very colorful string-bean. But!! He hadn't wanted to presume. ]

Well, as long as you stuck close, it shouldn't be a problem.

They would be...if not for the lack of electricity. I doubt they would operate, what with the state this town is in...

[He sounds incredibly disappointed about it. If only he could bust a way out with Kaiser Dist...alas.]

Oh, you needn't tell me twice. I only request a lookout if we manage to come across any machinery for me to examine.

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-16 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true. But, I can agree to being a lookout if we come across anything interesting. Examining machines really wouldn't be my forte.

[ And now with that out of the way... ]

Alright, I think I'm all set here. We should probably set up a time to enter into the subway - my things should arrive by Wednesday, so the latest we could stop by an investigation would be next Monday.

[ Provided neither of them were dead, etc. ]

Excellent! I have no issue with that date. I will prepare as well in the meantime. You have my thanks, Rean.

[He goes to give a little bow, then he realizes-]

Ah, this is our first proper conversation, isn't it? Dist the Rose- though I really shouldn't have to introduce myself by now. [His outburst at the trial certainly made him stand out for...not great reasons. BUT HE'S NOT REFERRING TO THAT.] Still, proper introductions never hurt.

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-18 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
It's no problem at all—after all, we're all in this together.

[ And, well, since Dist bowed, Rean thought only to perform the action in kind. So there he was giving one to the other, and it was swift as well as well-practiced. ]

You already know my name too but I'm Rean Schwarzer, Instructor of Leeves' Thors Branch Academy. [ Then he'll right himself with a smile. ] I agree that proper introductions are good to have. We've had those profiles up, but like I've agreed with someone about, that's not really a good substitute for getting to know anyone.

How right you are about that! Those profiles were written with a heavy bias, after all.

[He's not bitter about it or anything...]

So this academy of yours...is it related to the military? Your profile alluded to several things that I would associate with it, being a general in a military faction myself.

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-18 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
Somehow I'm not even surprised that they were.

[ He can sense that bitterness from a mile away...but it's not like he didn't understand. Some of the things on people's profiles sounded so rudely phrased. ]

Yes. Thors Branch Academy is a military one, though it had just opened this year, so it's been an interesting experience being an Instructor there.

...Your profile did mention you being a 'God General' for the 'Oracle Knights', and I figured that it meant you had some military background too. What's it like being in such a position?
ortion: (❀ flippant)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-19 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
[No one's ever really asked him what it's like to be a God-General, so he has to think about it for a moment...]

Mmm, I greatly enjoy the amount of work that it allows me to do. Because of my position, I have a great many resources for my research, and a number of hand-picked assistants to aid me with it.

[That's...kind of a stretch, but-]

But truthfully, I feel very underappreciated for all that I do for the Oracle Knights. I am a God-General for a reason, and yet I often get treated like I am far lower!

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-19 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
You sound like you must be a very reliable person, Dist. Being able to have a large amount of resources and a close team must mean people also have a good amount of faith in your ability.

[ Rean seems to have believed it though, so maybe not too much of a stretch to him. ]

...What do you mean? Do you know why you're treated like that?
ortion: (❀ oh please tell me more)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-19 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, you saw him at the trial, Rean......]

Thank you for saying so! I like to think that as well, but apparently my fellow God-Generals think otherwise! I certainly couldn't tell you why, but I have always had a reputation for this among the Knights.

The only reason that I could possibly think of is because my role is typically beyond the battlefield. Honestly though, have they forgotten who provides the weaponry...?!

[He could go on about this for ages though.]

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-19 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really no problem.

[ Well, he just figured that Dist freaking out had no bearing on his ability. He dealt with difficult, genius researchers before who also were said to have had tantrums when they haven't gotten their way (re: Schmidt)

Though, he was sure, like Schmidt, it wasn't all there was to him.

That being said, he supposed he had some insight into some possibilities why, but he didn't want to assume... ]

...Haha, hopefully they haven't. People's roles behind the scenes tend to be just as important as the ones on the frontlines, but I guess there are times where people do forget that.

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-20 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Rean is so valid holy shit.]

Those times are far too often, if you ask me! But I will digress, because just talking about it makes me angry all over again.

[For once in his life he's shutting up about himself, amazing.]

So. An instructor for a military academy at twenty years old, eh? I take it you must be some kind of prodigy?
reanbeans: (120)

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-20 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He'll nod with an understanding to that, willing to move right along. ]

...Actually, I just worked and studied really hard. It was real tough and grueling, but I made it work.

It helped I also had support with a lot of people to keep me going as well.

[ It was a very long two years of schooling, but being a workaholic worked in his favor too. Not that he considered himself that. ]
ortion: (❀ just no)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-21 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Dist seems to clamp up for a moment. A little bit of envy is evident on his face before he collects himself.]

I see. [Where does he even go from here without sounding bitter?] Did that involve seeing the battlefield for yourself?
reanbeans: (25)

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-21 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He caught that but he couldn't have been sure of the reason why. ]

That's right. There was a time where I was actually a Provisional Military Officer. Though, even before that, there was this civil war that became difficult not to get caught up in.

[ He didn't look too excited talking about this portion, if only because not everything went well. Because you know, wars. ]
ortion: (❀ ihu van)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-23 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Wars are never very exciting to talk about, and unfortunately he had to discuss them quite a lot with a war-crazy colleague. He gets it.

Still though, yikes. Seems like child soldiers are present everywhere.]

I imagine it was valuable experience to pass on to your students, at the very least. Experience is important for an educational position.

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-01-23 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ That they were. ]

...That's right, it was. At times it was rather difficult, seeing as I had just been a student not too long before I accepted the position at the Branch School, but I believe my own experience was invaluable in making it work somehow.

[ Among other things, like having helpful staff and friends around, but yeah. ]
ortion: (❀ contemplating)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-23 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
I cannot say I envy the position, but it seems like a respectable one nevertheless.

[Even a prideful person like Dist can admit that much.]

A truly good instructor can leave a lasting impact on their students.
