WEEK 2

WEEK 2

The first week is over, and two of your number are gone. Everything related to the case has been cleaned up, with nary a knife left at the Main Square nor a trace of the mud shapes that once painted the clock tower walls, although some stray graffiti still dots some storefronts.

However you may feel about the entire debacle on Friday, there’s no doubt that something has changed about the atmosphere, although whether it’s something tangible or just a trick of the mind is hard to say. Maybe it’s nothing. Either way, there are more palpable changes to the city, with some of the fog retreating away from a few of the surrounding areas, uncovering new buildings and streets along the way. The night, however, remains unchanged as always save for the slow waxing of the moon, leaving it bright and full as early as Thursday night. Regardless of if you take it as an omen or not, at least that means the streets will be lit up fairly well for the week, provided some inconvenient cloud cover doesn’t slide right in.

[[Welcome to Week 2! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 2 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

science museum

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-15 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[If there's something science-related, there's a very good chance that Dist will be there to check it out. That is exactly why he has been poking around the science museum! He catches sight of Iago leaving the lab after he presumably explored it.]

Ah! Did someone finally find the keycard? Excellent, excellent!

[He's...going to be disappointed by the lab's contents, but oh well.]

Anything of interest in there, Iago?
psychophant: (✦ 07)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-15 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, Dist is absolutely the person he wanted to see. If anyone is going to understand his absolute fascination with this place and everything in it, Dist is.]

Yes, I did find it. It was located in a very strange place... Ah, but that's not the point.

[He inclines his head toward the lab.]

I'm afraid much of this is a bit beyond me, so someone will have to do a more thorough inspection later, but it does seem very interesting.
ortion: (❀ labcoat)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-16 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
It was you? Excellent work! You have my gratitude- I thought I had looked just about everywhere for the damned thing.

[He's definitely curious about where Iago actually managed to find it, but it can wait.

In reference to Iago's lack of knowledge about what's in the lab:]

Well, we shall certainly have to fix that, won't we? I'll take a look in there once we're done here. Depending on what it is in there, I could give you a crash course. At least with you, I know I won't be wasting my time and oxygen.

[Thanks Dist.]
psychophant: (✦ 65)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-16 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
It was in the last place most people would look.

[Honestly, he's not even sure how he spotted it... But anyway, we can get back to that in a moment.]

I can promise you won't be, though I may require a few more explanations to be fully caught up. I will endeavor to learn as quickly as possible, however.

[KNOWLEDGE!!!]
ortion: (❀ dramatic sideglance)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-16 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the utmost faith in you, don't worry.

[Unless Iago ends up proving him wrong and is totally incompetent?? But he doubts that'll be the result.]

Now, what's this about finding the key in an unusual place...?
psychophant: (✦ 65)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-16 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Thanks, Dist, at least he can always count on you to have faith in him...]

The key was in the mouth of that fake dinosaur. I'm really not sure how it wound up in there.
ortion: (❀ r u kidding me)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-16 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
What.

[He heard Iago, it's just...what.]

I thought about examining that thing in closer detail...to think I was so close to discovering that key myself.
psychophant: (✦ 02)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-16 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[He knows...]

I was mostly looking at it because it isn't anything I'm familiar with; I believe it was luck that I caught sight of something shining in its mouth.

[Right place and right time and all that.]

My assumption is that Rembrandt or the Lady put it there, but I'm really not sure why.
ortion: (❀ my life is so tragic)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-16 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
They probably want to make this more like a game than it has any right to be.

[Honestly, what is this, a point and click adventure game?]

Our captors aside, is it the construction that interested you, or the monster itself?
psychophant: (✦ 07)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-16 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[The first part gets a nod; that's absolutely what's going on here...]

A bit of both. There are many animals on display here that match up to the ones that exist in my world, but no sign of wyverns, or even dragons. That's what drew me to that - it certainly isn't either, but it's very fascinating.
ortion: (❀ ...unsure)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-18 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
...That is a good point, actually. Where are the wyverns? Do they not exist in this world, I wonder...?

[There really aren't that many creatures similar to monsters, either...aside from these dinosaurs, maybe. Weird.]
psychophant: (✦ 92)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-18 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
That's the only thing that makes sense. I find it hard to imagine a world without wyverns. They're very common in Nohr.
ortion: (❀ contemplating)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-19 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Huh! Dist isn't sure he'd call wyverns common in Auldrant or anything, so now he's curious!]

Do they give the citizens any trouble, or do they mostly stay out of settlements?
psychophant: (✦ 88)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-19 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Wild wyverns aren't very common near cities - they tend to stay high up in the mountains. Domesticated ones can be a bit unpredictable and unruly without a trained handler, but there usually isn't much to worry about there. There are plenty of Wyvern Riders in Nohr.
ortion: (❀ what no jade?)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-19 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Wait, what?]

You've domesticated them? Incredible! We have some domesticated monsters, but certainly not wyverns. I would only expect to see one of the other God-Generals commanding such a beast.
psychophant: (✦ 52)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-19 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Really? We've had them domesticated for... Well, quite a ways back. Many of our soldiers ride them into battle; they're very useful, when they aren't at risk of being shot out of the sky by archers, of course.

[Huh!! The one time Nohr was more advanced at something.........]
ortion: (❀ daydreaming about jade)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-19 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
I can certainly understand the advantages of an aerial assault. Flight is still a fledgling field in my world, though we are working on flying machines. The chair that I normally use to get around is fitted with a small flight stone for aerial travel, for instance.

[Yulia, he misses his chair so much...]

Are you a wyvern rider, yourself?
psychophant: (✦ 88)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-19 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Flying machines?

[flying robots!!!!!!!! dist why is your world so cool!!!!!!]

Aerial travel like that would certainly be incredible... Wyverns are temperamental and difficult to train, and pegasi don't do well in Nohr, so our options are severely limited. Being able to fly so easily, like that...

[cooooooool.........]

No, wyverns and I don't get along very well. That's partially because I don't have the patience to train them, and partially because wyvern riders rely on physical strength and that is... not one of my strengths, to put it lightly.

[his strength stat is literally 0, you cannot make this shit up and yes, i am going to bring it up every single time i possibly can because it's hilarious.]
ortion: (❀ beginning of the end)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-19 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it certainly is! Granted, my chair is hardly suitable for battle, but a flying ship absolutely would be. It would be very difficult for simple archers to take one down- and a struggle still for fonists. Ah, mages would be the equivalent term I believe?

[Dist would be happy to help Iago with those too, but well...it's not something that's been completely figured out yet. Maybe someday!

As for Iago's unfortunate strength stat...well. Mood? Mood.]

There is nothing wrong with a weaker constitution. I can tell that you certainly haven't let that get you down. Your strengths simply lie elsewhere.

[Let no one tell you otherwise Iago!!!]
psychophant: (✦ 31)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-19 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
[we are the biggest noodles in this game and we still want to throw down at every opportunity, this is a disaster]

Certainly, I am one of the strongest dark mages in Nohr. Not to brag, of course.

[of course.]

A flying machine with no weakness to arrows, however... That certainly would be greatly beneficial. Being difficult to take down by mages as well is simply fascinating... I must admit, Dist, I'm quite envious of your world. It sounds as though you have access to so many things that would make my life so much easier.
ortion: (❀ bitch please)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-20 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
[The equivalent of tiny yappy dogs, truly.]

And there you have it!

[Brag away, man.]

Making life easier is why technology progresses in the first place, after all. It simply sounds as though the people of your world have not yet considered the ideas that the people of mine have. As I have said before, I am happy to give you a little push in the right direction.
psychophant: (✦ 33)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-20 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
It does seem as though my world has developed in different ways - our systems of magic seem entirely different, after all. [what the fuck is a fonon anyway] But even still, it is impressive...

I may have to take you up on that. There's plenty I'd like to learn from you.

[teach him how to build a robot!!!!!!!!!! or don't. please don't, actually. no one needs that.]
ortion: (❀ flashback)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-21 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
That does seem to be the case, yes. I believe it has to do with the particles of which our worlds are comprised. My world's magic is derived from said particles.

While I am more familiar with developing technology around these particles, I don't see why I couldn't make alterations for them to work with your world's resources. I was able to comprehend this world's technology with ease, uncooperative electricity aside...

[But that's a rant for another day.]

Feel free to stop by if you would like to hear me more about technology and robotics. I could even show you the inner workings of some of the machines present here- that mechanical monster, for instance.
psychophant: (✦ 07)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-21 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
[It's sort of surreal not being the smartest person in the room at any given moment... But he likes Dist, and Dist is willing to explain things to him, so this is surprisingly fine.]

I'll be sure to take you up on that. I would be very interested in learning more about the machines here - particularly that one. I have been reading what I can to get a better understanding, but there's only so much one can grasp from books alone.

[teach him all about the animatronic t-rex, senpai]
ortion: (❀ hairflip)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-22 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[I can't believe what became of that animatronic t-rex.]

Indeed. Nothing can compare to a hands-on demonstration!

[He so just wants an opportunity to feel cool and useful, let's be real here.]

Well, I should examine this laboratory now. I trust you have much you still wish to explore as well. I shall see you around, then?
