WEEK 2

WEEK 2

The first week is over, and two of your number are gone. Everything related to the case has been cleaned up, with nary a knife left at the Main Square nor a trace of the mud shapes that once painted the clock tower walls, although some stray graffiti still dots some storefronts.

However you may feel about the entire debacle on Friday, there’s no doubt that something has changed about the atmosphere, although whether it’s something tangible or just a trick of the mind is hard to say. Maybe it’s nothing. Either way, there are more palpable changes to the city, with some of the fog retreating away from a few of the surrounding areas, uncovering new buildings and streets along the way. The night, however, remains unchanged as always save for the slow waxing of the moon, leaving it bright and full as early as Thursday night. Regardless of if you take it as an omen or not, at least that means the streets will be lit up fairly well for the week, provided some inconvenient cloud cover doesn’t slide right in.

[[Welcome to Week 2! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 2 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

[ oh please, your hair looked like it belonged on an acne-covered teenager until yesterday, you have no room to laugh. ]

Well, obviously.

[ Does anyone think otherwise... ]

Anyway, he may have been desperate enough to beg our captors for toiletries, but I am not.

[ would he murder someone for shampoo? yes. would he ask for some? no.

... ]

What are all these fish here for?

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
[rude!!!]

Well, it's either that or beg him, if you're so desperate.

[which is worse, begging rembrandt for shampoo or begging cumore........

Anyway!! He's content to move on at the question.]

Frankly, I have no idea. It seems that this entire building is dedicated to hosting displays of information, so I'm assuming that the fish are here for others to study. I'm not entirely sure why or what knowledge can be gained from watching fish swim in circles, but such a grandiose display is fascinating on its own.

[Someone gathered up all these fish and put them in these tanks so people can come stare at them?? How rich do you people have to be to do something so wild.]
pr159: (let us now speak of brave men)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ god, he just established that he is NOT that desperate, were you not even listening!!!!

(also begging cumore is absolutely worse and there is no way in hell he's doing it) ]

I'm familiar with museums, at least, just not ones with live fish in them. This is hardly what comes to mind when I think about science.

[ He also hasn't actually seen that many live fish at all, though, since the sea near Duval has been dried up for so long. So. It is kind of interesting. ]
psychophant: (✦ 89)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
We don't have anything quite like this in Nohr, it's certainly fascinating.

[The other stuff is more interesting, but it's pretty cool to see all these fish like this...]

I do wonder how they're all still alive, though. Is Rembrandt feeding them?

[...how do you even go about feeding this many fish anyway...??]
pr159: (or let me put this another way)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Or maybe there used to be more fish.
psychophant: (✦ 02)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
We'd most likely be seeing some dead fish if that was the case.
pr159: (there really is no truth to this)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Not if they ate them, which was the entirety of what I was getting at.
psychophant: (✦ 45)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Is it really all that likely that the fish are eating each other?

[...do fish eat each other??? iago knows nothing about fish. fish cannibalism could very easily be a thing, but that totally sounds fake.]
pr159: (you can't change the system)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I imagine it depends on the type of fish, but as far as I know, yes.

[ WHICH ADMITTEDLY IS NOT THAT FAR BUT it seems intuitive? a lot of monsters eat smaller monsters, after all. ]

You're not that naive about animals and monsters, surely. There are plenty that even eat their own young when the circumstances call for it.
psychophant: (✦ 45)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
[bold of you to assume iago knows a single thing about any animal]

The monsters I'm familiar with are created from dark magic, so it isn't quite the same.

[the faceless can't eat each other they don't have a face!!!!]
pr159: (of course it's me you've come to try)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ well that sounds fucking stupid! ]

Are those the only animals your world has?
psychophant: (✦ 98)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
No, of course not. Those are the only things I directly work with, however.
pr159: (where i'm living at the top)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
You don't have to work with animals to have a basic level of knowledge about how nature works.

[ and his world hardly even has any nature!! ]
psychophant: (✦ 56)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
[maybe that's why they're all eating each other!!!!]

Yes, of course.

[ANYWAY MOVING ON]

Is the rest of this... museum similar to the ones you have in your world?
pr159: (who live their lives)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
[ boy you sure don't want to dwell on the sad reality of your insufficient knowledge huh! ]

Somewhat, though ours focus more on industry and archaeology.
psychophant: (✦ 98)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
[that is exactly it, don't rub it in!!!]

I imagine your technology is closer to that of this world's than my own; tell me more about what is on display for the industry portion of that.
pr159: (let mine not be counted among them)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well, he didn't really go to them very many times... Schoolchildren went on field trips there all the time, but he'd never gone to a normal school. ]

They had rooms with different collections of spyrix devices from over the years, so you could see the mechanics of how they worked and how they'd changed over time as technology improved. So there would be one part devoted to lighting and electricity, one devoted to weather forecasting and control...

[ Maybe the stuff about the Kudlak being for controlling weather was bullshit, but the museum played along with the lie, anyway. That's how it goes when Spirius is your main sponsor, he guesses. ]

There was a big section devoted to the history of trains, as is to be expected, given how fanatical some people get over things like that.
psychophant: (✦ 92)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[....that sure was a lot of words he didn't understand, cool!!!]

What are spyrix? I haven't heard of that before.

[He's been doing a lot of reading here so most of the other stuff is something he has a vague concept of, sort of. So that one stands out as The Weirdest.]
pr159: (i left that part out)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, unlike with Dist, he can tell Iago is definitely not going to understand any technical specifics he might give, so he's not going to waste his breath explaining them. ]

It's the name for the type of technology our world was built on. An umbrella term for any device constructed with a spirit fossil as the power source, essentially. From home appliances to medical devices to engines.
psychophant: (✦ 52)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[thank you for sparing him...]

Ah, I see. It sounds as though your world has a higher level of technology - is it comparable to what we see in this world?
pr159: (this is how they talk about me)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The technology itself is almost all completely different on a mechanical level, but the end result is oddly about the same, yes. If it hadn't been for the moon, it wouldn't necessarily have been immediately apparent that this wasn't my world.
psychophant: (✦ 07)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Fascinating... I can certainly see where that would be disorienting.

[Especially because it's fundamentally different, but results in something similar. That sounds like a nightmare to deal with!!]

Thank you for indulging my curiosity. [even though so much of it went right over his head...] Hearing about other worlds is always interesting.
pr159: (and what's more if i had)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-15 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
[ buddy you just missed a great opportunity to hear about the giant sky fetus but so be it ]

You're welcome.

[ he says that kind of condescendingly, but honestly, that's how he says pretty much everything. ]

It has been rather enlightening so far, given how different most of the places we come from seem to be from one another. I'm hoping to find some new ideas that can be incorporated into my own work when I return.
psychophant: (✦ 04)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-15 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
[GOOD

Anyway, yeah, he's not really surprised by Rideaux being so Rideaux about it, it's fine.]

Oh, exactly. I've been learning quite a bit that may prove useful to Nohr when I return.
pr159: (sell us things which are already ours)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-15 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh? Like what?

[ Aren't you like, in some magic army or something? ]
