WEEK 2

WEEK 2

The first week is over, and two of your number are gone. Everything related to the case has been cleaned up, with nary a knife left at the Main Square nor a trace of the mud shapes that once painted the clock tower walls, although some stray graffiti still dots some storefronts.

However you may feel about the entire debacle on Friday, there’s no doubt that something has changed about the atmosphere, although whether it’s something tangible or just a trick of the mind is hard to say. Maybe it’s nothing. Either way, there are more palpable changes to the city, with some of the fog retreating away from a few of the surrounding areas, uncovering new buildings and streets along the way. The night, however, remains unchanged as always save for the slow waxing of the moon, leaving it bright and full as early as Thursday night. Regardless of if you take it as an omen or not, at least that means the streets will be lit up fairly well for the week, provided some inconvenient cloud cover doesn’t slide right in.

[[Welcome to Week 2! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 2 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

[maybe that's why they're all eating each other!!!!]

Yes, of course.

[ANYWAY MOVING ON]

Is the rest of this... museum similar to the ones you have in your world?
pr159: (who live their lives)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
[ boy you sure don't want to dwell on the sad reality of your insufficient knowledge huh! ]

Somewhat, though ours focus more on industry and archaeology.
psychophant: (✦ 98)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
[that is exactly it, don't rub it in!!!]

I imagine your technology is closer to that of this world's than my own; tell me more about what is on display for the industry portion of that.
pr159: (let mine not be counted among them)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well, he didn't really go to them very many times... Schoolchildren went on field trips there all the time, but he'd never gone to a normal school. ]

They had rooms with different collections of spyrix devices from over the years, so you could see the mechanics of how they worked and how they'd changed over time as technology improved. So there would be one part devoted to lighting and electricity, one devoted to weather forecasting and control...

[ Maybe the stuff about the Kudlak being for controlling weather was bullshit, but the museum played along with the lie, anyway. That's how it goes when Spirius is your main sponsor, he guesses. ]

There was a big section devoted to the history of trains, as is to be expected, given how fanatical some people get over things like that.

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[....that sure was a lot of words he didn't understand, cool!!!]

What are spyrix? I haven't heard of that before.

[He's been doing a lot of reading here so most of the other stuff is something he has a vague concept of, sort of. So that one stands out as The Weirdest.]
pr159: (i left that part out)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, unlike with Dist, he can tell Iago is definitely not going to understand any technical specifics he might give, so he's not going to waste his breath explaining them. ]

It's the name for the type of technology our world was built on. An umbrella term for any device constructed with a spirit fossil as the power source, essentially. From home appliances to medical devices to engines.

[thank you for sparing him...]

Ah, I see. It sounds as though your world has a higher level of technology - is it comparable to what we see in this world?
pr159: (this is how they talk about me)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-14 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The technology itself is almost all completely different on a mechanical level, but the end result is oddly about the same, yes. If it hadn't been for the moon, it wouldn't necessarily have been immediately apparent that this wasn't my world.
psychophant: (✦ 07)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Fascinating... I can certainly see where that would be disorienting.

[Especially because it's fundamentally different, but results in something similar. That sounds like a nightmare to deal with!!]

Thank you for indulging my curiosity. [even though so much of it went right over his head...] Hearing about other worlds is always interesting.
pr159: (and what's more if i had)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-15 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
[ buddy you just missed a great opportunity to hear about the giant sky fetus but so be it ]

You're welcome.

[ he says that kind of condescendingly, but honestly, that's how he says pretty much everything. ]

It has been rather enlightening so far, given how different most of the places we come from seem to be from one another. I'm hoping to find some new ideas that can be incorporated into my own work when I return.

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-15 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
[GOOD

Anyway, yeah, he's not really surprised by Rideaux being so Rideaux about it, it's fine.]

Oh, exactly. I've been learning quite a bit that may prove useful to Nohr when I return.
pr159: (sell us things which are already ours)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-15 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh? Like what?

[ Aren't you like, in some magic army or something? ]
psychophant: (✦ 52)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-15 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Well, an establishment like this would be immensely useful for mages - so many of our more powerful spells can only be learned and used through the use of exceptionally rare books, after all. Even the castle library doesn't house all of the tomes that one would require to become a master Sorcerer.

But aside from that, I've heard of horseless carriages known as "cars"... such a concept would be difficult to implement with our limited technology, but would make traversing Nohr much more simple.

Dist has also introduced me to the idea of robots, and if such a thing could be recreated with dark magic, our days of dealing with the Faceless would finally be over. Having an army that one can command that isn't made up of people would certainly be exceptionally useful in our battle against Hoshido, and they sound durable enough to be able to withstand even some of Hoshido's strongest warriors.

[this tag is making me cry i hate everything about this]

...Though I am also curious about that device the Lady used in the execution...

[HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO BRING GUNS BACK TO NOHR]
pr159: (why you never saw it coming)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-15 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ ........you know what, he has no fucking response to this, so he's just going to leave that all there and only address the last part. ]

What, the gun?
psychophant: (✦ 33)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-15 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
[honestly, very fair.]

Yes, that! You're familiar with it?
pr159: (we might get along better now)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-15 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Not my personal weapon of choice, but I am, yes. They're common in my world.
psychophant: (✦ 92)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-15 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Really? What is your weapon of choice?
pr159: (whatever cat-hating god cats pray to)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-15 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Knives, usually.
psychophant: (✦ 98)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-15 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
[...knives and he's a doctor... rideaux is a butler???????]

I wouldn't have expected that.

[ANYWAY MOVING ON...]

There are some other things I wanted to see here, so I'll take my leave now. Perhaps I'll ask you more about guns some other time.
pr159: (throw in a factory too)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-15 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Really? They're similar to scalpels, so I think it's pretty on-brand, actually.

[ Anyway, good, this has been exhausting. And it's not like they won't run into each other again soon anyway, whether he's in the mood for it or not.

He smiles. ]

Yes, let's do that.

[ lmao no actually let's not ]
psychophant: (✦ 07)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-15 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
[rideaux doesn't deserve this.]

Until next time.

[And he'll head out! I'm so sorry for everything, Rideaux.]
pr159: (i don't have time to regret)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-15 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ he does tbh ]
