WEEK 2

WEEK 2

The first week is over, and two of your number are gone. Everything related to the case has been cleaned up, with nary a knife left at the Main Square nor a trace of the mud shapes that once painted the clock tower walls, although some stray graffiti still dots some storefronts.

However you may feel about the entire debacle on Friday, there’s no doubt that something has changed about the atmosphere, although whether it’s something tangible or just a trick of the mind is hard to say. Maybe it’s nothing. Either way, there are more palpable changes to the city, with some of the fog retreating away from a few of the surrounding areas, uncovering new buildings and streets along the way. The night, however, remains unchanged as always save for the slow waxing of the moon, leaving it bright and full as early as Thursday night. Regardless of if you take it as an omen or not, at least that means the streets will be lit up fairly well for the week, provided some inconvenient cloud cover doesn’t slide right in.

[[Welcome to Week 2! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 2 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

Technically, yes. They're essentially shaped with dark magic and occasionally other materials.

[sometimes he just makes monsters, nbd.]
drydrown: we have no use for you here (TCH ♡ looks like you've been busy)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-13 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[...but why.]

The world I'm from is overrun with them, they're pests. Very large, very dangerous pests. Great fun to hunt, mind you, but largely an annoyance.
psychophant: (✦ 92)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-13 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I imagine they'd pose a problem to... well, everything. People and crops and other wildlife...?

[How exactly are y'all still alive????]

Or am I mistaken in believing that they're vicious, rampaging beasts?
drydrown: the magna carta's a nice suggestion (HAUGHTY ♡ judging like john marshall)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-13 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you're not mistaken at all. We have barriers that keep them out of the cities, however, using those blastia I told you about. Not many of us leave the cities without either military escort or enough skill to keep ourselves in one piece.
psychophant: (✦ 02)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-13 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. That certainly would pose quite a bit of a problem... It sounds as though they're quite powerful too.
drydrown: those plates are totally relevant and useful (CAST ♡ mimura said what now)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-13 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
They are.

[Mm.]

I would say that this world probably doesn't have such a thing, but...

[Vague gesturing at the...whatever we're looking at... Like yes, these things may have died out, but he's sure there are plenty of others that haven't? It's sort of counterintuitive to think otherwise.]

I wonder what's keeping them out of the cities, though.
psychophant: (✦ 96)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-13 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
If your blastia are capable of it, then I imagine there's technology that could be comparable here. The Lady certainly doesn't have much interest in magic, though Rembrandt does. It's certainly likely that they're keeping the city secure; they want us to kill one another, not monsters.
drydrown: we have no use for you here (TCH ♡ looks like you've been busy)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-13 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps, though I'd imagine we would know if there was something spanning the city like that. Blastia devoted to such a task aren't particularly subtle, and according to Dist the lack of electricity here isn't subtle either.

[we'd probably know about it if tech that large were around??]
psychophant: (✦ 02)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-13 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a fair point. It's possible that there's another explanation for it, but I sincerely doubt either of them will be willing to share.
drydrown: those plates are totally relevant and useful (CAST ♡ mimura said what now)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-13 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It does seem unlikely...

[Mm.]

...Everything looks so odd to me. We have a few similar animals to these sorts of things, but not many.

[Like, so many of the normal weird taxidermy things look so plain?]
psychophant: (✦ 52)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-13 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I imagine the monsters look quite a bit different, but there are differences with these as well?
drydrown: those shoes with that dress though (EHHH ♡ now wait just a minute)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-13 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we simply don't...have many of these, and if we do some of them have interbred with the monsters. Some units use war dogs in combat, for example, and they've very obviously bred with wolves. But our wolves also look nothing like anything here.

[God help us if there is anything depicting horses in this museum, he'll be so confused.]
psychophant: (✦ 89)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. That makes sense; I hadn't considered that the monsters would be close enough to the animals for interbreeding to happen. I imagine that would change quite a few of these...
drydrown: those shoes with that dress though (EHHH ♡ now wait just a minute)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-14 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
[We have some very anime dogs.]

It does, yes. So while I admit there are several things here that are strange to me, it...might just be that there was less interbreeding here, or those specific crossbreeds can't exist for some reason or another. Or their monsters are just different - it's not as though we have wyverns.
psychophant: (✦ 98)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
It seems this world doesn't either; I can't imagine why one wouldn't be on display otherwise.

[It's still disappointing, though.]
drydrown: we have no use for you here (TCH ♡ looks like you've been busy)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-14 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
...It really is morbid that they do this sort of thing here. Just...keeping them around on display like that.

[Ew.]
psychophant: (✦ 04)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it's dreadfully morbid. Anyone can come see these at any time! What a wonderful idea, I'll have to see if I can set something similar up when I get home.

[oh my god]
drydrown: those shoes with that dress though (EHHH ♡ now wait just a minute)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-14 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
[WHY.]

...Have fun, I suppose.
psychophant: (✦ 07)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure I will.

[oh my god.]

Anyway, are you just here to see what this place has to offer?

[cumore isn't a nerd.......]
drydrown: we have no use for you here (TCH ♡ looks like you've been busy)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-14 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
More or less. I've never seen anything like this place before.

[AND THIS SIDE OF THINGS SEEMS BETTER THAN THE SIDE WITH THE FISH.]
psychophant: (✦ 17)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
...So how do you feel about the fish?
drydrown: those shoes with that dress though (EHHH ♡ now wait just a minute)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-14 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Must we.

[god you can practically see his soul leave his body]
psychophant: (✦ 31)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh dear, did you really find them all that terrible?

[WE MUST.]
drydrown: the magna carta's a nice suggestion (HAUGHTY ♡ judging like john marshall)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-14 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure the fish are perfectly fine, I merely don't like being in that area very much.

[...it's creepy down there.]
psychophant: (✦ 09)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-14 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I imagine it would be less inherently creepy with some more light.
