WEEK 1
WEEK 1
Your hosts have come and gone, and have left you with nothing but more questions and a key. Regardless of how you reacted or what you decided to do soon after that, it’s a fact that the day must end eventually.
And so it does, with the striking of the clock. As the twelve gongs reverberate and disappear into the night, the rest of the city is left silent save for a chilly wind that skims the streets. Those who have retired to their assigned rooms will find that the furnishings are decent enough to get a good night’s sleep, while those who wander the city will only continue to see empty streets and fog. But regardless of how you spend the night, eventually it will become readily apparent that dawn will not be coming any time soon as the waxing moon continues to hang in the sky even as the clock strikes six or seven or eight.
No one’s stopping you from wallowing in bed or holing up in a building during this perpetual night, but there’s a whole city out there to check out and some interesting additions to the Opera House decor; don’t forget though, a cage is a cage and every good cage needs its bars. While a portion of the streets and buildings are clear, any intrepid explorers won’t find themselves able to get very far through the fog that surrounds them; anyone who tries to venture through will end up getting turned around and end up right back where they started. Still, there’s plenty of other places to check, even if the fog-shrouded buildings are more or less off limits. Fortune favors the bold, after all.
[[Welcome to Week 1! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also now privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt at your leisure!]]
investigation - bookstore
Rean had took the time to get up at 5:00AM in the damn morning, posting up as many notes as he could after his early morning routine.
...At the very least the amount of explorable places made this possible. It also meant he caught a glimpse of the profiles that went up in the Opera House as well. Suffice to say, rough weather never stopped him.
The notes read: ]
Everyone, I believe it'll be good if we got together to talk about our situation together, what we've found out, and what we could do to turn this whole to our favor. After all, it'll benefit us if we were organized and did our best to work together against them.
The meeting time will be 12:30PM tomorrow. I will bring refreshments and food, but anyone else is free to do the same.
- Rean Schwarzer
[ After that, Rean could be seen later in the morning at clergy housing, making do with what they have and cooking some breakfast in the kitchen. If he saw anyone, he'll give a small smile.
There's also a jar of some syrupy substance on a counter nearby him. ]
Did you want me to make you something too?
[ Because he's making pancakes and some simple eggs to go along with it. Thank goodness for there being a place to collect dairy ingredients.
After he's done making breakfast, he'll leave a few pancakes out for people on plates in the dining room, even if they didn't ask. There's some notes right next to them, one pile noted to be 'jelly-filled pancakes', and 'regular pancakes'. There's also a container of syrup on the table to go along with that, which is basically kind of fruity and one Rean made do with what was lying around in the cans.
There's also some self-made, warm milk tea in a container, with a note that also says 'for everyone'.
He'll also take a seat himself and begin eating.
Towards the afternoon, Rean will head into the bookstore for more books to read to occupy his time. If he caught the eye of someone in there, he'll give a slight smile as a greeting. ]
How have you been holding up?
[ He figured he should ask, even if they haven't been here awhile. It'd be best if he started looking out for others right from the onset.
In the later half of the afternoon Rean will return to the bookstore, so that he can start to investigate that small office, trying to see if he could find anything of note. ]
Breakfast
What you're making right now smells quite good enough.
no subject
[ He figured he should ask and because the other is...rather a good size, he believed he should probably prepare four for him. Four large pancakes. ]

kitchen
[And I mean, after all the confusion of the previous day and very likely at least most of the night spent wandering and banging into uncooperative fogbanks, it's a little easier to see that while his uniform is still mostly as pristine as it used to be colorwise (minus some scuffs, though all of that's already a miracle considering white is only a useful color in Hueco Mundo) the collar is held together by willpower, prayers and maybe a pin or two.
It's certainly not sturdy enough to avoid revealing the Hollow hole just at the base of his throat, so really would the food even go anywhere. Mysteries of Hollow anatomy.
So instead of judging the state of Rean's pancakes, he'll just start rifling around in the drawers himself, quiet aside from the clatter.]
no subject
[ Rean stopped what he was doing because after he asked, he saw the hole. But the guy looked fine...what. ]
And sorry to ask, but have you always had that hole there?
[ There really was no delicate way to ask rip. ]

she pauses at the door, then walks slowly inside. she seems to scrutinize the pancakes and the milk tea and the note, but she looks up at rean with her normal frowny lineface. ]
How considerate of you. I'll be helping myself to some tea, thank you.
[ she pours herself a little cup, then moves to sit across from rean. ]
Rean Schwarzer. Taking initiative, I see.
no subject
[ He'll take it in stride because he's always happy to help people at least a little. And everyone in this situation was going to need all the help they could get. ]

But here's Rean, speaking up to save the day (and possibly the kitchen).]
If you're offering... [pretend he doesn't sound relieved, okay] I'm entirely unfamiliar with... [handwave] all of this, really.
[please help, he has relied on servants to cook for him for years now??? he doesn't know what he's doing.]
no subject
He'll wear his savior of the day/kitchen mantle proudly. ]
I have more than enough to go around and I understand completely. If you want, I could even teach you how to cook some things.

Are you going to cover them with this?
[ Poking the syrupy substance. Eggs covered in mystery syrup. ]
mmm sammiches
Yes, I really don't mind.
[ There are, fortunately no eggs covered in mystery syrup. Yet. ]
Did you want your pancakes covered in fruit syrup?

notes
Well, it's good to see someone not letting this place get to them.
[He remembers Rean from the day before, obviously, all the bravado and bullshit was a little disgusting? But you know what, he at least has the common sense to not go about deliberately making enemies with people he hasn't even spoken to personally yet.]
no subject
Haha, well...I didn't think this was a situation that anyone can afford to. At least not for long.
Those two would take advantage if someone did.
[ He's sure of that at least. And with how hard he saw they were trying to pit everyone against each other, he thought this should help fight against that. Hopefully. ]

That said, he is... perched... on the counter top, watching Rean like a particularly strange hawk. Or, maybe, given his color scheme, a large horned snowy owl.]
What is it?
no subject
What was more surprising is the other not recognizing pancakes. ]
It's pancakes, and some eggs if you'd like to have those too.
If you've never had pancakes I'd recommend to give them a try.

I think I'm holding up just fine, even factoring in the situation.

[Oh, crap, she may have seemed a bit too enthusiastic. Noelle turns her head around, embarrassed at her outburst]
Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to sound demanding -- you don't have to make anything for me.
no subject
Noelle's enthusiasm only made him ever the more convinced that this was a good idea, though. Also a little amused, which made be visible in his tone slightly, but certainly nothing off-putting. ]
No, really, it's fine. I did offer, remember?
[ He'll get right to making a batch. ]
Would you like plain pancakes or ones filled with jelly?
