Last week could probably only be summed up as a mess. Three people died, one was turned to currency and the hotel pool remains in a general state of unusability unless swimming in pulpy mush is someone’s idea of a good time. And that’s not even counting the haunted morse code T-Rex. At least the greenhouse is as relaxing as ever, even if someone seems to have made off with a number of succulents and cacti.

But with the new week comes a new set of locations to explore as the fog retreats to reveal another portion of the city. The half moon wanes to a new moon this week, leaving streets even dimmer this week -- hopefully you have some other portable sources of light available if you plan on straying too far beyond the reach of the lampposts in the new areas.

Is that yours? It's very interesting. I considered holding onto it, but I thought someone might be missing it.

Well, it's not.. mine, per se. [he shakes it. The raindrop shaped glitter falls on the sideways city] But it's a representation of where I come from.

Is it?

[He was expecting something weird, given how strange Zangetsu and Ulquiorra are compared to the rest of them, but that's a bit hard to imagine.]

Tell me about it.

Hehehe... well. It's a representation of my master's soul. I ain't sure why it is the way it is... but it's sideways skyscrapers as far as the eye can see. It's real empty, though.

[psychophant]

[Huh...]

Do you miss it?

[moonfang]

... I gotta say this world has a lot more to do. But I am a little homesick. I don't belong here.

[psychophant]

That's understandable. There's plenty to do in this world, but it isn't home.

[Hmm...]

What... are you, exactly? I haven't heard the full explanation before.

[is that rude to ask? yes. is that going to stop him? of course not.]

It ain't even close.

[if it's rude, Zangetsu doesn't seem to mind. He laughs a bit, but it's more forced than usual]

What am I? I'm a goddamn mess is what I am! I represent and embody part of my master's messy powers and lineage.

[psychophant]

Would you say you're a piece of his soul, then? It seems strange that you would be brought here entirely without him.

[moonfang]

A piece, yes. But also my own... thing... it's hard to explain. [he shakes his head] It's very strange. I shouldn't even be manifested like this.

[psychophant]

Oh no, certainly. You're clearly your own person.

[Souls are Complicated and probably don't work the same between worlds anyway.]

Did you ask the Lady or Rembrandt how it's possible you ended up here? For most of us it seems simple enough to take us from our homes, but your situation is unique.

[moonfang]

I did, sort of, but I didn't exactly get a clear answer. And my master, Ichigo, he ain't even in that book the Lady has. I dunno what it means. Maybe she just wanted the power without the human baggage attached to it? But a sword without a wielder ain't much more than a pointy paperweight.

[psychophant]

There must be something she wants from you specifically. Your master might not have been able to provide whatever it is she's looking for.

[moonfang]

Well. I am much more willing to use our power to its fullest, no matter what I destroy in the process. Not so caught up about worryin', able to kill people no problem. Maybe its that willingness she wants. Or just wanted it from its source. Who knows. But then they locked up all our powers anyway so... [he gestures vaguely, then slumps] ... I don't get it. And for the first time in my existence, it matters that I don't get it.

[psychophant]

That certainly may be part of it.

[It's the rest of that he chooses to focus on, however.]

We don't understand much right now, so you aren't alone. The most we can really do is attempt to learn more about this world and what happened to it, along with the Lady and Rembrandt. My hope is that we'll eventually be able to determine exactly what happened and find a way to return home.

[He hesitates for a moment.]

Rembrandt told me that it may be possible to regain our powers, but it would have to be in our own worlds.

[moonfang]

... That's all I really need. It'd be great to get my powers back and put the Lady in her place. But... the idea of going home and being useless.... I might as well be shattered again. Ain't sure the blacksmith would be able to forge me a second time.

[psychophant]

Considering we do have powers here, perhaps we don't need to have our original abilities to do just that.

[Though admittedly there's no guarantee those will even work on her, since they're her doing in the first place...

Anyway.]

What happened the first time?

[moonfang]

With my original powers... I could make sure she could never hop into another body again. I can't destroy her very essence with dumb ice.

[he is so salty.]

I was broken in my released state. Usually that would mean Ichigo would just... not have a Zanpakutou ever again. But he's sort of a special case. My sword form had originally just been manifested from pure spirit energy, and not forged from a base like most Zanapakutou are. ... I ain't sure it'd work a second time. Would I still be "Zangetsu"? Would it be someone else...?

[He doesn't really get most of that explanation, but the last part at least makes enough sense given the context.]

It sounds horrible. Even if you would still exist in some form, it might not be you.

This topic is a bit depressing, though. What brings you to the aquarium today?

[moonfang]

[it's just a bunch of jargon, tbh, but the idea of losing oneself or becoming obsolete is something everyone can understand! Hooray for existential crises!]

Ah. I just like to watch the fish. They're just doing their own little thing, following their instincts without a care for any of this nonsense. It's peaceful.

[psychophant]

It is. I never would have imagined such a thing could exist. It's fascinating to be able to view them up close like this.

[moonfang]

Ah... yeah, your world is a little... behind, ain't it. Soul Society is like that in places, too. Do you not have things like zoos, either?

[psychophant]

It really is.

[He sounds so disappointed!!!!]

Zoos? What are those?

[moonfang]

They're kind of like an aquarium, but for terrestrial animals. Things like elephants, tigers, big lizards and snakes... all these wild animals that normal people wouldn't usually get ta see, brought into human civilization.

[psychophant]

[what the hell are elephants and tigers]

Really? We don't have anything of the sort. I know of some nobles that collect exotic animals, but displaying them for everyone to see like that sounds so strange...

[it's like a museum of living things!!! wild.]
