WEEK 4
WEEK 4
Last week could probably only be summed up as a mess. Three people died, one was turned to currency and the hotel pool remains in a general state of unusability unless swimming in pulpy mush is someone’s idea of a good time. And that’s not even counting the haunted morse code T-Rex. At least the greenhouse is as relaxing as ever, even if someone seems to have made off with a number of succulents and cacti.
But with the new week comes a new set of locations to explore as the fog retreats to reveal another portion of the city. The half moon wanes to a new moon this week, leaving streets even dimmer this week -- hopefully you have some other portable sources of light available if you plan on straying too far beyond the reach of the lampposts in the new areas.
[[Welcome to Week 4! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 4 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]
chess;
He'll approach the other man, looking kind of interested. ]
Are you looking for someone to play a game with?
no subject
I'm always looking for opponents. Do you play?
no subject
It's really nice seeing something familiar in a place like this. ]
I do, actually. Though I can't say I play as regularly as some of the students back home have, I think I can provide a good enough challenge.
no subject
[this is such a handwaved game of chess going on in the background, wow!!! how good is rean at chess, by the way?]
no subject
[ Rean's pretty good! But probably actually not as good as Iago at chess because he's also admittedly rusty. So he'll probably give him at least a good challenge for a bit, before meeting his defeat or something like that. ]
no subject
You're very good. Would you care to try again?
[we can just handwave chess happening in the background of the thread lmao]
Who taught you to play?
no subject
Yeah, let's definitely go for another round. I bet I can get to checkmate this time.
[ Handwavey chess go go go ]
I learned it from my dad—he always had a chessboard we could play with back home.
no subject
Was he good? What is he like?
no subject
Yeah, he is. He's a good, skilled man with a sense of responsibility who knows how to treat well those under his care in the town...
[ Since, well. His dad is a Baron. ]
...And of course he knows how to show how much he loves his family. Without him, I'm sure I wouldn't have become the person I am today, and I'm forever grateful to him for all he's done for me.
no subject
[It's more a placeholder than anything else as he gathers his thought and makes another move; a bit careless, but nothing that will cost him the game.]
What of the rest of your family? Do you have any siblings?
no subject
I have a mother and a little sister. But other than that, I don't really have any other family members.
[ Nope. No other family. ]
It's a small family, just the four of us, but we mean a lot to each other.
no subject
[It takes him a moment before he makes his next move; this one isn't as careless, thankfully.]
Tell me a little about your mother and sister.
no subject
My mother, she's...kind beyond measure and all the same, she can be stern when she needs to. She's done so much for me as well, that I don't think I can put into mere words how thankful I am to her for her part in taking care of me as a somewhat new part of the family.
My sister is incredibly loyal, studious, intelligent, and capable in her own way too. I'm proud to be her older brother, really. And she's also been there to have my back when I needed it, that's the kind of person she is.
no subject
It sounds like you have a very kind and loving family. I'm sure they appreciate you just as much.
[It's not sarcastic at all, actually.]
no subject
Also, aw, Iago. He'll smile at those kind words, able to hear the lack of sarcasm easily.
And really, he couldn't help but be appreciate of them. He didn't know the man very well, but Rean figured it wasn't something the other would say lightly either. ]
...Thank you, Iago. It really does mean a lot to me to hear you say that.
no subject
Yes, well. You have been an exceptionally helpful asset to our group.
[so naturally he's just going to get prickly!!!]
no subject
Haha, I'm glad that you think so. I know everyone has been doing their best, including you, but knowing that I've been helpful in that too is nice.
[ ...Rean couldn't help but be humble about this compliment, but he was happy to hear it nonetheless. ]
no subject
You have been. You're one of the only ones who offers to organize the meetings and you look out for all of us in your own way.
[He's certain Rean has his own reasons for it; he's not stupid enough to think that Rean genuinely cares about everyone here. But regardless of reason, Rean still continues to seek everyone out to do what he can for them. It's... nice. Sort of.]
no subject
Well, that is true. Honestly, Iago...thinking about it, even though we're still in the dark in our situation, I'm glad to see that we could all work to try to find some answers in all of this.
I wouldn't say that working with this group has been easy, but it's nice seeing people come together against a greater threat, even if they do have their own motivations for doing so.
[ He tried his best. Even if he wanted to dunk maybe a certain someone because of pool escapades last week. ]
no subject
[...this would almost be touching if this knowledge didn't come from putting down rebellions oh my god i'm so sorry, rean.]
We are all very different people from very different places, so it's not surprising that there's plenty of difficulties in getting used to one another. But I do believe we'll be able to sort ourselves out eventually.
[probably when there are like. less than ten of us left, but w/e!!]
