WEEK 4
WEEK 4
Last week could probably only be summed up as a mess. Three people died, one was turned to currency and the hotel pool remains in a general state of unusability unless swimming in pulpy mush is someone’s idea of a good time. And that’s not even counting the haunted morse code T-Rex. At least the greenhouse is as relaxing as ever, even if someone seems to have made off with a number of succulents and cacti.
But with the new week comes a new set of locations to explore as the fog retreats to reveal another portion of the city. The half moon wanes to a new moon this week, leaving streets even dimmer this week -- hopefully you have some other portable sources of light available if you plan on straying too far beyond the reach of the lampposts in the new areas.
[[Welcome to Week 4! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 4 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

He's content to make himself at home with chess, so feel free to join him for that if you missed it at the afterparty (or just want to play again). As always, he'll be absolutely merciless in these handwaved games, but he's in a pretty good mood so he might even be willing to teach if you're interested in learning how to play.
Eventually he'll check out the notebook, looking for anything particularly interesting anyone's written down, and purposefully avoiding any and all mentions of a certain idiot who got himself killed by lizards last week. The rest of this is interesting, but he's certainly not adding any of his own information.
If you want the notebook he'll hand it over without a fuss. Even if you just approach for any reason, he'll speak up.]
Tell me about the world you come from. I'm very curious to hear about it.
chess;
He'll approach the other man, looking kind of interested. ]
Are you looking for someone to play a game with?
no subject
I'm always looking for opponents. Do you play?
no subject
It's really nice seeing something familiar in a place like this. ]
I do, actually. Though I can't say I play as regularly as some of the students back home have, I think I can provide a good enough challenge.

[this is such a handwaved game of chess going on in the background, wow!!! how good is rean at chess, by the way?]
no subject
[ Rean's pretty good! But probably actually not as good as Iago at chess because he's also admittedly rusty. So he'll probably give him at least a good challenge for a bit, before meeting his defeat or something like that. ]
no subject
You're very good. Would you care to try again?
[we can just handwave chess happening in the background of the thread lmao]
Who taught you to play?
no subject
Yeah, let's definitely go for another round. I bet I can get to checkmate this time.
[ Handwavey chess go go go ]
I learned it from my dad—he always had a chessboard we could play with back home.
no subject
Was he good? What is he like?
no subject
Yeah, he is. He's a good, skilled man with a sense of responsibility who knows how to treat well those under his care in the town...
[ Since, well. His dad is a Baron. ]
...And of course he knows how to show how much he loves his family. Without him, I'm sure I wouldn't have become the person I am today, and I'm forever grateful to him for all he's done for me.
no subject
[It's more a placeholder than anything else as he gathers his thought and makes another move; a bit careless, but nothing that will cost him the game.]
What of the rest of your family? Do you have any siblings?
no subject
I have a mother and a little sister. But other than that, I don't really have any other family members.
[ Nope. No other family. ]
It's a small family, just the four of us, but we mean a lot to each other.
no subject
[It takes him a moment before he makes his next move; this one isn't as careless, thankfully.]
Tell me a little about your mother and sister.

Let's play another game first. Come this way~
no subject
[he is totally here to make other people feel bad/uncomfortable but getting rated in return??? nah.]
Nice try, though. I commend you for getting Teru Mikami to agree to it.
no subject
He probably assumed I wasn't really going to go through with it.
no subject
[not bad enough to not smirk like an asshole, but you know.]
I am pleased to see that you're having fun, however.
[...probably because it comes with the chance to insult people/make them uncomfortable, but that's not the point!!]
no subject
He needs a bit of ridiculousness in his life.
[ It was good that he even came in the first place and broke his schedule. ]
Who me? I always know how to make my own fun.
no subject
[how is mikami even surviving here, this poor man does not deserve any of this nonsense]
True enough, but you didn't have to go out of your way to prepare something like this.
[It's not quite thanks, but what were you expecting here.]
no subject
[ Tut-tut, he can't really learn to relax that way.
He'll sit on the other side of the chess board, poking at a piece lightly. ]
It wasn't really out of my way. How good at you at this game?

[ He's one of those clever shits that can some how predict most outcomes based on moves and what he knows of a person. He's also had strategy pounded in his head. So he will definitely be a challenge and won't hold back. ]
no subject
[look at this super handwaved game of chess!! dazai can have the win here since iago has beaten everyone else and isn't allowed nice things.]
...Well.
[well!!!!!!!]
It seems as though I did manage to underestimate you.
[He doesn't actually seem angered by that at all; he's more stunned than anything.]
