WEEK 3

Another week, another set of bodies to add to the pile. Two lured in by The Lady's machinations, and another two done in by misfortune; six of your number are dead already. Who knows who it will be the next time? And for what reason? Nevertheless, there’s no choice but to keep pushing on in your own way; whether that means barricading yourself inside your room for the rest of your stay, leaving artwork of your fellow Survivors around the housing area, or eating all the raw meat in the vicinity… well, everyone deals with things differently.

Either way, you understand the drill by now, yes? Another portion of the city reveals itself as the fog retreats yet again, lampposts lighting the way to the new areas as usual. The full moon wanes to half this week too, so make the most of it.

The most I'm good for is chopping and prep, honestly.

Well at least you admit it.

[ a shrug, then: ]

Though chopping and prep does make the process go by a lot faster.

Exactly. I'm good for something there, at least.

[ ... let's breeze on through that slightly sad self-deprecation! ]

How about you? Have any hidden kitchen talents?

No.

I cook until it's edible. No special ingredients, nothing. Once it's decent I call it a day.

Nothing wrong with efficiency, especially when you're busy.

[ The water's juuuust about done, so-- ]

What kind of tea would you like?

Green or black tea is fine.

[ her two personal favorites. ]

Any sugar with it?

[ in goes the green tea bag! ]

No thanks.

[ He pours the water right in and hands it over. ]

One cup of sort-of fresh green tea.

[ a nod as she takes the tea. raven sips on it a little, and yeah she's had better, but this will have to do for now. it's hardly shiro's fault. ]

I was looking at everyone's profiles earlier, and I have to ask: What is "Voltron"?

[ oh boy!!

Shiro takes a sip of his coffee. ]

The short story is that it's a robot made up of five smaller robots that defends the universe.

[ a pause. ]

Do you want the longer story?

[ um what the fuck ]

Sure. Not like I have anything else to do, anyway.

[ i mean mood ]

I guess our schedules are pretty free, yeah. [ a pause. ] Alright... so it began a very long time ago--over ten thousand years ago, actually. On a planet called Daibazaal, a trans-reality comet crashed. As the name suggests, it contained an alternate reality, or opened a rift into one. A group of scientists decided to study the comet, which led to incredible scientific discoveries.

One of these discoveries was made by my friend Allura's father, King Alfor. He used the ore of the comet to create five warships: the Lions that form Voltron itself. The Lions are pretty formidable all on their own--they can act by themselves when bonded to someone, and can come to their pilots' aid when they're in trouble. And they're capable of amazing feats.

Like combining into a humanoid robot.

[ that's some fairytale shit right there if she's ever heard of one but okay. she can't discount this as a fake story, because shiro wouldn't do that, and also, anything's possible, she's learned.

admittedly, she kind of doesn't follow along, but she can make like she does! ]

And how does "being a Paladin" relate to all of this?

A Paladin is the title given to the Lions' pilots. There are-- well. Before we found the Lions ourselves, King Alfor and his allies were Paladins.

[ he pauses. ]

I used to pilot the Black Lion, but that's been passed to my best friend.

I see.

[ another sip of her tea, then: ]

That's unlike anything I've heard of before. While space travel isn't out of our capabilities on Remnant, we have more pressing things to deal with.

It was pretty out of the realm of possibility for me, too, at first. Being able to cross over to other universes... I didn't think it was possible at first.

[ a pause, a sip of his coffee. ]

Given the choice, if you didn't have more important things to do, would you travel to space?

No.

[ sorry, shiro. ]

I'm the leader of the Branwen Tribe. I can't abandon my post. Not when they've made me into the woman I am today.

Hah, fair enough.

[ he isn't offended at least! ]

It's a huge responsibility you've got, after all. Shirking that, and the people important to you... that isn't the mark of a good leader.

Exactly. You understand.

[ this is why you two get along so well!! ]

And I have something rather...valuable that my tribe needs. I've told you about my powers before.

[ a nod. ]

Yeah. Even if you didn't have those powers, though, I'm sure they'd agree you're an invaluable part of the tribe.

You're probably right about that.

[ she hopes so, anyway. she likes to think that her people respect her as their leader. ]

How did you end up in outer space, anyway?

Before finding Voltron, I actually was a pilot for space explorationmissions. I went on a lot of missions before ending up as a Paladin.
