Another week, another set of bodies to add to the pile. Two lured in by The Lady's machinations, and another two done in by misfortune; six of your number are dead already. Who knows who it will be the next time? And for what reason? Nevertheless, there’s no choice but to keep pushing on in your own way; whether that means barricading yourself inside your room for the rest of your stay, leaving artwork of your fellow Survivors around the housing area, or eating all the raw meat in the vicinity… well, everyone deals with things differently.

Either way, you understand the drill by now, yes? Another portion of the city reveals itself as the fog retreats yet again, lampposts lighting the way to the new areas as usual. The full moon wanes to half this week too, so make the most of it.

[ Rean was always happy to give out free food...though that probably meant he probably wasn't helping in people cultivating their cooking skills whenever he did. But hey. ]

Good morning - I'm making just some omelets, bacon, and some waffles.

[ Saying like it wasn't a big deal. Really, it was typical breakfast food, so. ]

Did you want to have some?

Haha, well, thank you. Funnily enough, I find it easier to cook when there's other people around who can have some.

Yes, actually. Though I've noticed one or two other people seem to know how to cook themselves, which is good.

Yes, it seems many of us have worked out how to be self-sufficient, at least. Still, I doubt anyone complains about what you offer us.

[ Rean wondered if he should be surprised or not about that. But maybe he shouldn't because yes, free food. ]

It's really no problem. I'm always happy to provide a chance to teach someone new things.

[ Especially if those things helps them. It reminded him fondly of his job as an Instructor back home. ]

I never really had much of a reason to learn to cook back home; my position means I have access to the castle's chefs and servants, so I haven't had to prepare anything for myself in quite some time.

[Now that he's used to the stove and all the appliances, it isn't all that bad. Still way easier (and tastier) to mooch off of Rean, though!!]

Haha, don't worry you've got nothing to worry about on that end. Though I think there's only one student who has managed to be a little challenge back home.

[ Either way, he'll take it in stride. ]

...That does make sense, though. You did mention you were in a rather high position, after all.

[Well, considering he's never tried to teach anyone anything, maybe students aren't as bad as he's assuming. Or maybe your class is just really well-behaved. Either way!!]

Yes, I am. I simply don't have time to handle that on top of everything else I'm doing for Nohr and King Garon.

[...Come to think of it, when was the last time he had a break...?? This is almost like a vacation. Except for the trials!! Even the murder's pretty normal at this point, tbh.]

Point is, Rean could reign them in 90% of the time and that's what matters!! ]

...It's starting to sound to me like you need a vacation.

...You may not be wrong about that, but if I took a vacation, I imagine Nohr would collapse within a week.

[I mean. Never mind that it has been longer than a week since he's been here!!! It's fine!!! Totally fine.]

There's no one around to substitute for you while you would be off the job or...something?

[ Because wow. Then again he did hear from him that the King trusted him a lot. But still.

He hoped that Nohr was at least not on flames and people were coping just fine. ]

No, there isn't. While there are other tacticians that could handle the war, the inner workings of Nohr as a country are handled by King Garon, and due to his declining health, it's become my job.

[Basically he translates garon-speech to orders that people can actually follow.]

Unfortunately, the king doesn't wish for anyone to see him in such a state, and I am the only person permitted to speak with him. Even if my duties could be covered, the trust he has placed in me cannot be.

[He legitimately does sound somber about the whole thing; it's... sort of strange to think about how things are going in his absence right now, so he'll go back to not thinking about it at all, thanks.]

...I can see why you'd say that, then.

[ He did mention the King holding quite so much trust in him and the state of his King before, though Rean had figured at the very least there miiiight be someone in an emergency.

But that didn't seem the case, and he'll take note of the somber tone. ]

I suppose it'd be like as if the Chancellor decided to quit, though I think he'd be someone who was rather replaceable, even given what he's done, and considering the circumstances were rather different.

[ He also couldn't believe this was actually the first time he mentioned the Chancellor to somebody but here we were, and maybe it'd be a good distraction. ]

Tell me about the Chancellor. Who is he?

[ He tries...he tries very very hard. ]

He's a rather ambitious man who stomps on anyone who gets in his way, and though he's not the only one who's been rather aggressive in Erebonia's history, he's one of the main reasons why our country is so aggressive.

His name is Giliath Osborne.

[ Rean couldn't imagine Iago getting along with the guy at all. ]

Is he still in power?

[ Basically. In a way. ]

Yes. I don't see him easily being removed from power at this point, though.

That's certainly fair. Someone like that would be very wary of having his power taken, I'd imagine.

Have you ever dealt with him personally?

You'd think that, but he's not really the type who'd be concerned with that at all.

[ Rean knew Osborne had hardly anything to worry about, considering everything. ]

...I have. More than I expected to, but not as much as some others.

I imagine it went poorly...?

The first time I met him back when I went to school actually was decent.

Anytime after that, it wasn't a sign of anything good.

[ He'll fold his arms, frowning.

He sure can shittalk, even if it might sound mild because it's Rean. Consider him an honorary, temporary member of the gossipy teenage girls club. ]

Every other meeting to me he seemed like he always knew too much [ insufferable, practically!! ], that he was much too satisfied in the position he had, and he seemed to act like nothing he did was ever really wrong. If he was asked to explain himself, he'd be mostly too vague, and if he actually gave any useful information it was a miracle, but it just ended up leaving more questions anyway.

I can't really say I'm surprised. That's more or less what I expected from someone like that. He sounds exasperating to deal with.
