WEEK 2

WEEK 2

The first week is over, and two of your number are gone. Everything related to the case has been cleaned up, with nary a knife left at the Main Square nor a trace of the mud shapes that once painted the clock tower walls, although some stray graffiti still dots some storefronts.

However you may feel about the entire debacle on Friday, there’s no doubt that something has changed about the atmosphere, although whether it’s something tangible or just a trick of the mind is hard to say. Maybe it’s nothing. Either way, there are more palpable changes to the city, with some of the fog retreating away from a few of the surrounding areas, uncovering new buildings and streets along the way. The night, however, remains unchanged as always save for the slow waxing of the moon, leaving it bright and full as early as Thursday night. Regardless of if you take it as an omen or not, at least that means the streets will be lit up fairly well for the week, provided some inconvenient cloud cover doesn’t slide right in.

[[Welcome to Week 2! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 2 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

A surprisingly rational point of view. For a human faced with death.

[And perhaps not as rare here as one would think; it's not hard to see what sort of people have gathered here.

So it's not precisely a compliment, but it isn't entirely anything else, either.]

I'm not particularly religious, and I've seen enough death in my life. It's not so frightening, when you're surrounded by it for years on end.

Death isn't good nor evil, it just 'is'. And when it comes, it comes.

Religion is simply a human attempt to look beyond -- to look away, in many instances. But fear may also be a rational response when faced with something much greater than yourself.

[The weird life-unlife of agreeing occasionally and on some level with a human. When did he get here, he'd like to disembark.]

Are you, then, waiting for death?

Of course not. There's too much work left for me to do. Death can fill out a form and wait its turn, I have no patience for anyone trying to skip the line when it comes to monopolizing my attention. Only one person has that privilege, and he isn't 'death'.

Hm. So that is the personal structure and face that you've given to 'death' as you'd like to see it. But that is as true for anyone else here, and the end cannot always be at the end of the line, can it?

Regardless of what "survivor" means for us all, the fact remains that this is a game of survival.

[A small tilt of the head.]

I wonder what you would do without this person of yours.

Isn't death the end of the line anyway?

And without that person, I would probably be sad for a little while. But then I would pick up and keep moving. As I said, there is a lot to be done yet.

[Blatant lies. He still grieves for Odasaku, and that man has been dead for four years. But something about the way Ulquiorra says that last bit makes Ango feel like he shouldn't tempt fate.]

No. It can be a great number of things; and that would be the most simplistic way to be wrong about a vast majority of them.

[How did they get here, why are all his conversations like this, etc. He didn't ask to be the local grave guru but that's where he's at. Great.

Green eyes scrutinize Ango for a moment, but neither of them have a reason to dwell on it.]

I see. Then perhaps you are ready for what lies ahead.

As I said, I am not particularly religious. Things like 'the afterlife' don't really concern me, as I have no proof as to if an afterlife even exists, much less what it could be like.

[And he's a man of facts and proof, so.]

It's better to focus on this world than worrying about the next anyway.
