WEEK 2

WEEK 2

The first week is over, and two of your number are gone. Everything related to the case has been cleaned up, with nary a knife left at the Main Square nor a trace of the mud shapes that once painted the clock tower walls, although some stray graffiti still dots some storefronts.

However you may feel about the entire debacle on Friday, there’s no doubt that something has changed about the atmosphere, although whether it’s something tangible or just a trick of the mind is hard to say. Maybe it’s nothing. Either way, there are more palpable changes to the city, with some of the fog retreating away from a few of the surrounding areas, uncovering new buildings and streets along the way. The night, however, remains unchanged as always save for the slow waxing of the moon, leaving it bright and full as early as Thursday night. Regardless of if you take it as an omen or not, at least that means the streets will be lit up fairly well for the week, provided some inconvenient cloud cover doesn’t slide right in.

[[Welcome to Week 2! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 2 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

labbb is it time for APOTHECARING

[It's definitely not unheard of for Ulquiorra to stop by the laboratory now that it's out there -- it's not his favorite sort of place in the world, given the associations of people and events he has with it (here or elsewhere), but he's not one to willfully avoid things like a child, either.

Every part of this city is both an open book and a taunt. He'll peruse it at his leisure.

Though speaking of lingering associations and information, it's not hard to guess what Alfyn's playing at, in a general sense. Apothecary is an old-fashioned term, but his profile is otherwise informative. This is also not the weirdest shade of mixture he's seen, considering the people he's worked with.]

... What is that concoction?

[Whether he's giving it a berth because he thinks Alfyn is about to blow everyone to kingdom come or because of his naturally massive personal space bubble, who knows.]

HELL YEAH

[Ulquiorra's entrance will get a grin, though Alfyn knows better than to try and wave while holding the beaker of liquid.]

This is supposed to help clean out cuts so they heal better. You pure a bit on a cloth and press to the wound. I made some burn salve earlier too, it's in those jars. [There is indeed several jars in a neat row out of range from being knocked over. They're all slightly different shades of white-blue, barely noticeable considering they're trial runs.]

[So long as he only had himself in the splash or blast radius, Ulquiorra would have just very delicately and very scornfully scoffed over his remains, so it's fine. In the meantime he doesn't bother returning the greeting -- instead, he paces over to inspect the jars. How bad a smell and fumes are we talking with this whole endeavor?]

Healing mixtures. I see.

[Something about his tone kind of says he doesn't quite see.]

Do you imagine your skills and a few salves will change what is happening here, and what will continue to happen here?

[The beaker Alfyn is holding has left a sharp scent in the air, nearly antiseptic but not quite so strong. Fumes are thankfully to a minimum, but the faint smell of burning is present underneath the antiseptic. His first trials with mixing things didn’t go as well as planned, but they were long enough ago that only the astute would notice. The jars are thankfully capped, so their bitter tang is contained. All in all, a familiar lab smell.]

There’s no reason to think these games will continue. [his disdain for the idea is plain to see] They could just as easily end tomorrow and something new begin, and a bit of preparedness could go a long way.

[Erik didn’t want to admit it, but Alfyn saw that his hand was injured. He wanted Seteth to heal him instead, and sometimes that’s people choice. A cleric over an apothecary. But that won’t always be an option, and Alfyn won’t slack off just because he isn’t needed this moment.]

[Overall an expected scent you'd find in a laboratory; and being the fastidious bastard that he is Ulquiorra will catch the underlying scents, too. He doesn't bother to mess with the jars themselves -- a cursory examination is enough. Instead, he'll move on to the books and the notes to see their progress, only throwing a brief and flat glance at Alfyn's argument.]

If you think there is no reason, when the entire reason for our existence here is to simply be sacrificed in creative ways, then you're far more foolish than I thought.

[And he already thought the fellow was plenty foolish. Alas.]

If anything new begins, it will begin with greater bloodshed, as this week did.

[Good luck with the notes-- while they're mostly in Polish, since Alfyn has no desire to hide them from other people who might like them combined with the books, there's a smattering of his home world's language mixed throughout for the odd side note.]

I'm not arguing that these people won't keep doin' something, I just don't think we can rely on this being the only thing they're doin'. This week it's "murder for the chance to be erased" but next week [Since it's clearly a weekly pattern] might be a maimin' instead. Or a "game" where we have ta play roulette for the outcome. Giving in and not preparing would be worse than preparing and not needing it.
