WEEK 2

WEEK 2

The first week is over, and two of your number are gone. Everything related to the case has been cleaned up, with nary a knife left at the Main Square nor a trace of the mud shapes that once painted the clock tower walls, although some stray graffiti still dots some storefronts.

However you may feel about the entire debacle on Friday, there’s no doubt that something has changed about the atmosphere, although whether it’s something tangible or just a trick of the mind is hard to say. Maybe it’s nothing. Either way, there are more palpable changes to the city, with some of the fog retreating away from a few of the surrounding areas, uncovering new buildings and streets along the way. The night, however, remains unchanged as always save for the slow waxing of the moon, leaving it bright and full as early as Thursday night. Regardless of if you take it as an omen or not, at least that means the streets will be lit up fairly well for the week, provided some inconvenient cloud cover doesn’t slide right in.

[[Welcome to Week 2! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 2 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

[Alfyn gives a very genuine grin back, before making sure he didn't upset something by looking away. He didn't especially want to start over (again).]

I'm tryin' to see if I can make a salve. The stuff is different than I'm used to, but a lotta the processes seem similar.

[A brief look at Rideaux before he continued, and then an equally brief hand gesture to encompass the books he had been referencing.]

I see. That sounds like a good idea.

[ He'll come over to take a peek at one of the open books. ]

Did you find some usable plants, then, or are you using things you found here in the lab?

Things I found here, mostly. Can't say I found any books that were much help with the few plants I've found around, so it seemed simpler this way than waitin' 'til I found something for plants.

[ :( ]
pr159: (sell us things which are already ours)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-16 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's always a good idea to make use of whatever you do have access to rather than wait around for something that may never come, I think. Should an emergency arise, an imperfect treatment is almost always still better than nothing, after all.

[ paging through... ]

Anyway, it's fortunate that you were able to pick up so quickly on how to work with unfamiliar materials. In my experience, people often fail to see how the same common principles can be applied to different situations with the right adjustments.

If you wanna help more people, sometimes it means getting a bit more diligent is all. [And a bit more creative, but that's probably implied.

The wording strikes Alfyn though--]
It's 'fortunate?' Did something happen?

[He didn't look or sound injured... There's not a whole lot of other reasons people usually seek apothecaries out though.]
pr159: (i left that part out)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-20 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I just mean in general. Someone is bound to hurt themselves sooner or later, right?

[ Suzaku did it on the first day, so... ]

Though, actually, I did have something of a chemistry project in mind if you were interested in working together.

[A noise of agreement, and a head nod] That's true, I was worried about the same kinda thing.

What kind of request? I'm all ears.
pr159: (made up my mind to enjoy it)

Well. You know how Cumore has been advertising that conditioner he's been making, selling it in exchange for favors or humiliation or something?

[ He's still curious how the fuck he's been making it with the materials they've had available up until now, actually, but that's beside the point. ]

I was thinking it would be nice if we could make some similar products of our own to offer everyone without the cost -- shampoo, conditioner, maybe some moisturizer to help with all this cold, dry air. It's hardly fair to try to profit off of something that should be a basic comfort, right?

[ This is a hilarious level of bullshit coming from him, but no one has to know that. ]

[Alfyn actually doesn’t know, but you’ve definitely got his attention, if you hadn’t already had it.]

I don’t see why we couldn’t do something like that. It might take some improvising though, since I don’t think the books would have recipes for shampoo... soap is easy, so maybe adapting that?
pr159: (because i gave it away)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-21 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That seems like a reasonable starting point, yes. I'm familiar enough with the properties of each that between the two of us, I think we should be able to pull it off.

[ IF CUMORE CAN DO IT surely two actual sort-of chemists can ??? ]

[Is your hair ready to go through the test phases Rideaux?]

What kind of properties for each would ya want? Might have the stuff in here already, otherwise we might need to dig around.
pr159: (this is how they talk about me)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-01-22 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
[ It's already getting pretty bad, so you know what, sure. ]

For shampoo, I think you're mainly looking for a surfactant with foaming properties that isn't too irritating to the eyes. With conditioner you're trying to maintain moisture in the hair and strengthen the keratin proteins, among other things, so you'd probably use some kind of oil. For a skin lotion, you'd want an emollient like cocoa butter.

[ you have no idea how hard it is trying to figure out if any of the plants they normally make this shit out of on earth actually exist in his world lmfao since so much of it is like coconuts and palms... i'm pretty sure chocolate exists, at least, so cocoa butter it is ]

I'd also be looking for a pleasant fragrance for either of the hair products.
