WEEK 2

WEEK 2

The first week is over, and two of your number are gone. Everything related to the case has been cleaned up, with nary a knife left at the Main Square nor a trace of the mud shapes that once painted the clock tower walls, although some stray graffiti still dots some storefronts.

However you may feel about the entire debacle on Friday, there’s no doubt that something has changed about the atmosphere, although whether it’s something tangible or just a trick of the mind is hard to say. Maybe it’s nothing. Either way, there are more palpable changes to the city, with some of the fog retreating away from a few of the surrounding areas, uncovering new buildings and streets along the way. The night, however, remains unchanged as always save for the slow waxing of the moon, leaving it bright and full as early as Thursday night. Regardless of if you take it as an omen or not, at least that means the streets will be lit up fairly well for the week, provided some inconvenient cloud cover doesn’t slide right in.

[[Welcome to Week 2! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 2 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

If it makes you feel better, these aren't real bones. They're replicas to show what their skeletons looked like. Real bones would be too heavy to hang like this.

[well that's less morbid, that makes it worse!!]

Oh, that makes sense. I can see where that would be entirely too much of a hassle; recreations would be far easier to take care of. Or replace, should something happen to them.

That's true, yes. Though I'm surprised these displays survived when the people of this town clearly did not. You would think that they would at least fall down rather quickly.

That's something that's been bothering me about this whole situation - it seems as if the people simply... disappeared. But so much of the city remains intact, even if it isn't all functioning properly.

It seems as though the people of this city haven't been gone for very long, but I find it hard to believe that the Lady and Rembrandt could have gotten all of this set up in a short amount of time.

There is a lot wrong with this situation. Even a week after the town goes quiet, nature starts to take over. The city should be full of animals- former pets, wild animals moving in, and so on- and yet there are none to be found. There isn't even any food rotting on tables or in fridges.

My assumption is that they cleaned this place up before our arrival, but I'm not entirely sure how they could have managed all of this. Obviously we're looking at powers beyond the scope of my own world, but it's frustrating not to have any idea of just what they're capable of.

The sheer number of people needed to clean a place like this points to it being a power that did it. Such a thing is possible in my world, but extremely unlikely.

[...Hmm.]

Out of curiosity, can most things happening here be explained by powers or abilities that exist in your world?

[personal profile] notbymyside 2020-01-14 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities in my world are theoretically limitless. There are those who transform into fearsome beasts, and those who can create objects out of nothing. For example, I know of one ability-user who can create a disorienting fog, much like the fog here.

The only hurdle is that every ability can only do one specific thing, so it would require a whole team of ability-users to create all the effects being used here.

That's the limitation in your world, at least. It's certainly possible that this world has something similar but without that limitation.

[personal profile] notbymyside 2020-01-15 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
That is true too. But if another world has that possibility, I wouldn't know about it.

Of course, which brings us back to not knowing and understanding how this world works compared to our own. I suspect we won't get many answers out of our captors either.

I agree. Any answers we get from them would be incomplete. We will have to have conversations about it and try to sort it out on our own.

Of course. With any luck, some of us will get some useful information from them.
