Your hosts have come and gone, and have left you with nothing but more questions and a key. Regardless of how you reacted or what you decided to do soon after that, it’s a fact that the day must end eventually.

And so it does, with the striking of the clock. As the twelve gongs reverberate and disappear into the night, the rest of the city is left silent save for a chilly wind that skims the streets. Those who have retired to their assigned rooms will find that the furnishings are decent enough to get a good night’s sleep, while those who wander the city will only continue to see empty streets and fog. But regardless of how you spend the night, eventually it will become readily apparent that dawn will not be coming any time soon as the waxing moon continues to hang in the sky even as the clock strikes six or seven or eight.

No one’s stopping you from wallowing in bed or holing up in a building during this perpetual night, but there’s a whole city out there to check out and some interesting additions to the Opera House decor; don’t forget though, a cage is a cage and every good cage needs its bars. While a portion of the streets and buildings are clear, any intrepid explorers won’t find themselves able to get very far through the fog that surrounds them; anyone who tries to venture through will end up getting turned around and end up right back where they started. Still, there’s plenty of other places to check, even if the fog-shrouded buildings are more or less off limits. Fortune favors the bold, after all.

[ Seems they had the same idea. Shiro isn't particularly surprised; considering what little he knows about her and what little he can extrapolate, Raven Branwen is a practical, smart woman. Even if she's a little....

.... prickly.

Regardless, Shiro's taking a look around, mostly to feel like he's. You know. Accomplishing something. Is it successful? ... Debatable, but here he is. And here she is. He glances at her. ]

Find anything useful?

[raventhaw]

[ she tenses up when she sees shiro. after their conversation, she's just not really sure how to feel around him. she has a history book in her hands that's filled with a lot of information she doesn't entirely understand. it makes sense, but there are a few terms in here that maybe someone like him would know.

...but that would require asking for help.

surprisingly: ]

I need your assistance with something.

[galrarm]

[ Shiro isn't exactly surprised, but he's also too nice to call attention to the way she stiffens. Instead, he just nods at her request and approaches her. Keeps a little bit of distance, since Raven doesn't seem like the type to appreciate her personal bubble being invaded... ]

Sure. I can give you a hand.

[ shiro. ]

[ no. just no. ]

[ with an audible sigh, she hands him one of the history books she's been looking at. ]

Does any of this sound familiar to you?

[galrarm]

[ That's fair.

Shiro takes the book, and honestly, it doesn't take long for him to recognize a lot of this. ]

Yeah, actually. [ ... It's a little troubling, actually. ] This is history from my world.

[raventhaw]

[ squints... ]

Which is planet earth?

[galrarm]

Yeah, that's the one.

[raventhaw]

[ she takes that book away from him and gives him another book. and another book. ]

These, too?

[galrarm]

[ Honestly, he's pretty sure what he'll find.... but all the same, he's diligent in looking through each book she hands to him. ]

Yeah. I learned about a lot of this in my history classes.

[raventhaw]

[ she takes back the books from him and places them on an empty spot on one of the shelves. ]

It's confirmation we are on some version of earth, then. I was hoping to find something about the supposed events we survived, but I haven't had much luck.

[galrarm]

Can't say I'm surprised.

[ He yoinks a book off the shelf, flips through it--maybe there's something that doesn't quite add up, but it's pretty solid--and replaces it. Part of him is still skeptical about a lot of things... ]

I doubt they'd leave information like that lying around.

[raventhaw]

That'd be too easy. Might have better luck in one of the other locked buildings, once those open up.

[ she growls and her fingers rub at her temple. ]

[galrarm]

I assume we'll have to earn that somehow.

[ ... but from the way he says it, he has a damn good guess as to how. ]

[raventhaw]

Of course we will. And you know exactly how we're going to do it.

[ she shrugs. ]

But who knows? Maybe someone else will do the work for us.

[galrarm]

[ The disapproval is practically radiating from him. ]

I'm not sure how that's much better.

[raventhaw]

Because you won't have to get your hands dirty.

[ she gives no fucks about your disapproval ]

[galrarm]

[ Jesus, Raven. ]

Maybe that's how you see it, but that's not exactly my biggest concern here.

[raventhaw]

And that doesn't surprise me at all.

[ she turns back towards the bookshelf, pulling out a few more that have interesting titles. ]

Always worrying about other people...when the only person you need to worry about is yourself.

[galrarm]

[ Which, in turn, doesn't surprise him.

also shiro has never worried about himself a day in his life ]

I'm capable of doing both, believe it or not.

[raventhaw]

Congratulations. Would you like a medal?

[ raven.... ]

I'm not going to repeat myself. You know what I said and I'm sticking to it. Extending a hand towards any of us here will only get you into trouble later.

[galrarm]

[ Raven. ]

And I'm sticking to what I said, too. Seems like we're at an impasse.

[raventhaw]

Of course we are.

[ stubborn. both of them. ]

I don't think that's going to change anytime soon.

[galrarm]

[ What he wants to say is that people can change.... but. ]

Maybe not.

[ That's what he settles for, after a while. ]

[raventhaw]

[ wishful thinking, shiro. ]

I will admit, though, I did ask you to aid me just now, didn't I. And you were able to confirm some things for me. For that, I will say thank you.

[ she actually...sounds pretty sincere about it, too? wow. ]
