WELCOME

EPILOGUE

As the world they've been living in so long quickly dissolves around them, the oppressive air from the Gate fades away from their senses and their vision turns turns completely white. It only takes an instant for their sight to return, but when it does, they'll find themselves in the same dim, dank chamber that they were in a moment before albeit with several main differences: the Gate and the machines that were clustered near it are now gone.

However, you'll only be able to take in this sight for a few seconds before the scenery blurs and suddenly there's the scent of the cool December air brushing past your face, blinding sunlight assaulting the eyes.

It's been six weeks since you've seen anything but the night, so it may take a bit of adjustment before realizing that there's a number of very, very familiar faces before you, as well as one who might not be so recognizable. Either way, one thing is for sure: that long, long Night is over, and it's the start of another Day.

Witamy w Krakowie.

[[Everyone will find themselves in the Main Square. Furthermore, those who had body horror will find that all traces of it are gone!]]

Me too, honestly. There were honestly a couple of close calls before all of...that.

[ Like definitely Dist's trial. He nearly lost it there, and goddess help him if he had cracked then, yep.

But, Iago's admission that he'll keep mum and that he won't change how he thought of the other made his voice catch in his throat. He's trying very hard to cry again because he's done enough of that when he saw Oli!!

Still give him a moment. ]

...Thank you, I really do appreciate it if you kept that to yourself. It's...really not something I go around just telling anyone.

I understand. I won't speak a word of it to anyone.

[And maybe several weeks ago that wouldn't have been true, but it certainly is now.]

Regardless, you were critical in eliminating her. You have my thanks for that.

[Even though it's probably awkward given that whole innocent person who died with her thing. Oops??]

[ He'll smile a little at that, at least. ]

Thank you again, Iago.

[ He's really appreciated that. He didn't need to say it again, but he didn't think he could properly convey how much that meant to him. ]

I'm glad you think so. I believe part of that was helped definitely by your own actions in this as well...even if I'm not sure what you were doing for awhile, do to focusing on trying to distract and take her out for awhile.

[ Though, his expression turned to something remorseful, because yeah. He totally got reminded of that. ]

I just wish we could've done something for the person she was possessing, even if...I understand that wasn't possible.

I simply kept her distracted and had Cumore use Sonui to silence everything for a bit. She wasn't able to give Rembrandt orders while silenced.

[It wasn't one of his better plans. Really, it was a desperate last stand to try to regain some control, and it hinged entirely on everyone else having the sense to keep up the pressure as soon as it was set off. He had counted on Rean and Raven, and he had counted on everyone else to find their places in the brief moment it took for everyone to understand what was going on.

It isn't the sort of plan he ever would have used back home. He doesn't trust people, and he certainly doesn't like when they don't act in a way he's expecting. This entire plan relied on everyone being adaptable. Somehow, against all odds, it worked.]

I understand. It is truly unfortunate that she had to die with the Lady, but I could see no other alternative.

[There probably was a way, but in truth, Iago didn't really care enough to figure it out. That person isn't one of the few he cares about, so why bother? He may have gotten some character development, but not that much.]

I'm pleased we were all able to work that seamlessly together, even if it was just for one moment.

[And then Raven hesitated and Dazai knocked her out and everything went to hell from there, but that's not the point. For one brief moment, all of them were united in their absolute hatred of the Lady and it was beautiful.]

[ It may have been desperate, but as far as Rean was concerned, it helped fuel into a greater part of their success on top of the distraction. ]

Or seemed to be able to really hear what the others were doing with that machine. I really can only think of it as some great-timed teamwork that happened when it needed to. It feels like the sort of plan that I'm used to seeing come together back home, to be honest.

[ Rean looked sheepish at that. Either way, he had to give credit where it's due. ]

...Yes, it really didn't seem like there wasn't any other way. But, I do agree that I'm glad we managed enough teamwork when it counted.

And, well, even though this wasn't what I wanted to experience at all...I do want to say that it's been such a nice experience getting to know you, Iago. I couldn't say that I knew how everything was going to pan out, but I don't regret being able to get along with you, even with our differences.

[ He'll let a small, weary smile at that, as he meant that. It'll be strange not being able to talk to the man anymore, and he'll honestly miss being able to speak with him. ]

[...heh.]

I never would have imagined we would get along at all. I wrote you off initially as someone I could use to my benefit here. I underestimated you greatly.

[And with that, he ducks into a proper bow, sweeping and exactly as dramatic as you'd expect of him.]

You have my thanks for your kind words and support over these horrible weeks. [He stands as he continues.] You were never rash in your decisions and you treated everyone fairly, even when there was no reason for you to. You strove to look out for all of us and do what you could for us, while never attempting to control us.

I certainly owe you an apology for my behavior this past week, but even then you continued to surpass my expectations. At every turn I have found myself surprised by you, Rean. It was exactly that quality that I spoke of with the Lady.

[About how even the best-laid plans can never take anything into account, about how people will always manage to surprise you.]

I too am pleased we've had the opportunity to meet. While we may never cross paths again, I know your future will be bright. Everything you have shown us here is proof of that.
