EPILOGUE

As the world they've been living in so long quickly dissolves around them, the oppressive air from the Gate fades away from their senses and their vision turns turns completely white. It only takes an instant for their sight to return, but when it does, they'll find themselves in the same dim, dank chamber that they were in a moment before albeit with several main differences: the Gate and the machines that were clustered near it are now gone.

However, you'll only be able to take in this sight for a few seconds before the scenery blurs and suddenly there's the scent of the cool December air brushing past your face, blinding sunlight assaulting the eyes.

It's been six weeks since you've seen anything but the night, so it may take a bit of adjustment before realizing that there's a number of very, very familiar faces before you, as well as one who might not be so recognizable. Either way, one thing is for sure: that long, long Night is over, and it's the start of another Day.

[ the sun is definitely blinding, and raven needs more than a few moments to adjust to it. her hand comes up and over her eyes, filtering out the sun rays as she emerges back into the light again.

it's been too long since she's seen the sun. she relaxes in it for a while...before she just lets out the longest, most drawn-out sigh in krakow. ]

...I don't even want to try to fathom what just happened right now.

But, we're alive. Let's hope the others are around too, and we can find a way back home.

[ He's also exhausted and feeling...like. Trash.

But he's sure everyone else was too? In a way? So, it's fine. ]

[ Good morning, Survivors! You'll find Shin in the main square suddenly rolling up his sleeves to find- Yes! There's no body horror anywhere to be found! And he doesn't feel hungry anymore... ]

Oh...! Oh thank god, I'm whole!

[ What the hell is this guy going on about, smiling like he'd just been spared from a horrible fate? You wanna go talk to someone who died? ]

[So Cumore is not going to be terribly difficult to find, seeing as he's just going to need to take several minutes to regroup himself, which really just means that he's finding the nearest bench in the square for the sake of sitting down, burying his face in his hands and fucking shrieking into them.

...People were somehow surprised that he has Sonui.

Once he's done...that, however, he looks decidedly less like he's going to stab someone, cry, or stab someone while crying. He's still not together but he's getting there, even if everything is kind of a tremendous "what now" and he doesn't know what to say to any of these people.

The sun is nice, though. He's not going to complain about the sun. Even if it's illuminating the architecture, which he still kind of hates.]

[ Once he's gotten even slightly used to the sunlight, Mikami is going to rush to find Cumore. This was... this was a mess and he's got so much to make up for. Even if technically he never betrayed their promises, even if technically he only played with the thought--- and it was a righteous thought, mind you! Even then.

Once he arrives at the bench, there's only going to be a deep bow. He's not getting on his knees on the dirty floor, but he's bowing as deep as his body will let him. ]

I apologize. I apologize for what I considered. I'm still yours to decide over - whether you keep me or not is your decision and I will accept any judgment. But for what it's worth, I am sorry.

[Just hanging out here looking exactly like himself, drinking an iced tea and apparently sitting on like a bench or something next to a whole lot of McDonald's takeout. And popcorn. And empty wrappers.

It's unlikely that he even consumed most of that, but whatever.

Casually ignoring the living that just popped up dramatically. He has better things to do, like finishing this tea.]

[ Among all the survivors, no in-births, you'll find someone who doesn't belong. His red eyes look familiar though, even if his looks have changed yet again. ]

My, the sun is nice to see even for someone like me. [ Feel free to yell at him, fight him, or really just ask him if he can send them all home. ]

[GODS WHY IS IT SO BRIGHT, just put him back in Nohr where we never see the sun, that almost sounds preferable to this hell—

Anyway, looks like we survived. Somehow. Seriously, that was looking really rough for awhile there and once Iago has taken a moment to get used to his surroundings, he promptly decides he's not ready to deal with Krakow But Daytime right now. He sort of wants to just sit down and scream into his hands for the next three years, but he's got more important things to worry about.

First of all, he's going to be looking out for Cumore. He's going to be prioritizing Cumore for a bit until he's pretty damn sure Cumore will be fine on his own because sometimes your friend just kind of breaks and you have to sit there with him until he starts feeling better. It happens. A lot.

Anyway, after that he's not going to investigate anywhere, but he will be just sort of wandering around, marveling at everything in the daylight. It's like a whole different city, damn!! Feel free to find him anywhere in the main square; he's not going too far since there are some people he really wants to see and wouldn't dream of potentially missing them by wandering off.]

[...he still expected everything to go all pear-shaped in the home stretch, really, so seeing the sunlight and the real Krakow is just...

Well, he looks as dumbfounded as he’s been feeling for the past while, and he almost... kind of collapses in... relief? Exhaustion? Yeah, it’s probably exhaustion. He’s just... wow, this has all been a lot, and he looks for something to steady himself on something or other.]

It’s... really over, then...

[What a lovely breeze. Good thing he wears so many darn layers.]

Haha!! Well, as I suspected-- there was nothing to worry about after all.

[It certainly feels good when the faith you put in others pays off so nicely. But he hadn't been all that worried. Regardless, he'd made his preparations before his death. But it feels nice to have an even better ending than he'd anticipated.]

[For a moment he's quiet; he looks away somewhere in the middle of that, glaring off at something in the distance and bracing his hands hard against the bench, gripping the edge tightly.]

Are you only apologizing to me now because you can't have it?

[The words are tight. Cold.]

[ The voice is familiar... Though Shin will seek him out in private. ]

... Rembrandt, was it? Did you... Did you somehow undo whatever price she put on taking her hints?

[Move the fuck over, buddy, he's about two seconds from screaming with you. But instead, he's just going to sit down beside Cumore and wait out the shrieking. Are you okay with shoulder pats...?? He's still trying to work out physical affection, shut up.]

Well, we can all guess where he's going whenever he has the chance -- go hit the bar if you're looking for him. He'll actually have chilled out a little by that point, at least, and will be looking thoughtfully into his drink.

He's still mad as hell, but this isn't the worst that could have happened. To him, specifically. ]

[ Rean didn't know if he was going to cry by seeing him alive, or...

Or...actually he didn't even know anymore. ]

[Once Iago is on his own, he'll find that someone has been looking for him. Judging from the shout that comes from behind him, anyway. It's been a couple days since he last heard it. A long couple days. This time, though, it's in person.]

The presence of another person during the...that will at least get him to calm down a bit faster than he would have normally; he's not precisely sure what to do with the awkward patting but it's. Better than nothing?]

I'm not sure, I think mostly tired and I could be feeling better, but...I think I'll manage.

[ That was all definitely not good for his mental health. But they made it out, so small miracles.

And...Raven was still talking to him and not treating him like a monster (he's pretty insecure about revealing that side of him, so.) Which was also good.

He just really needed to sit down. ]

[It feels like it's been forever, even though in reality it's only been a few days since he last heard that voice. It's been much longer since he was last able to see Dist, however, and when he turns around, his expression is bright. Overjoyed, even.]

[There isn't any hesitation when he moves forward and wraps his arms tightly around Dist's waist. If he had a strength stat, this might possibly be painful, but thankfully he doesn't.]

[Give him a moment. He hasn't forgotten about the name at all, but for right now... Well, he needs a bit. He's been barely holding himself together for a whole damn week, after all.]

[ He's not looking up. This bow will be held until the conversation is over, because it is all he can do to show his deference. ]

I'd have taken it in a heartbeat if it weren't for you, to begin with.

[ His soul is such a small price to pay for righting every wrong in the world. All unrighteous, simply destroyed under his heels... Even Mikami can't quite fathom that he didn't take the deal. ]

But in the end what was on my mind the most was the terror I felt when he was threatening to kill all of us - kill you. I couldn't let him believe I'd never take it because... he might have made good on it.

[When everyone regroups in the Day, there is one glasses-wearing individual who is standing a bit off from everyone else. He looks a little apprehensive too, because he's totally expecting to get punched a few times.

But if you're not here to punch him, Ango will talk. He's just not sure what to say to the living quite yet.]

I know.

[You aren't, and we both know it. But he can humor you anyway.]

I'm staying right here until you're ready to face everyone else. There's nothing you can say that will get me to leave.
