WEEK 4

Last week could probably only be summed up as a mess. Three people died, one was turned to currency and the hotel pool remains in a general state of unusability unless swimming in pulpy mush is someone’s idea of a good time. And that’s not even counting the haunted morse code T-Rex. At least the greenhouse is as relaxing as ever, even if someone seems to have made off with a number of succulents and cacti.

But with the new week comes a new set of locations to explore as the fog retreats to reveal another portion of the city. The half moon wanes to a new moon this week, leaving streets even dimmer this week -- hopefully you have some other portable sources of light available if you plan on straying too far beyond the reach of the lampposts in the new areas.

I talked to the Lady after the trial about her..."side project". You all know what I'm referring to.

[ brains. ]

She mentioned her only criteria for picking and choosing her subjects is whether she'll have any use for them. [ a beat, then she turns to face ango. ]

She specifically mentioned that she wanted you, Ango, for your deductive powers.

...Of course she would.

[He'll have to make sure he doesn't die, then.]

[ Dazai has no idea if its good or not that she doesn't seem into nullification. ]

[Really Dazai do you want her after you? keep your head down.]

It seems like she's interested in people with exceptional abilities like yours. She mentioned that she wasn't interested in Dist despite how knowledgeable he is. She's also not interested in me, for the record.

I wonder if it has to do with our original powers. I'm not the best detective here- Dazai is far better than me- but I can collect all sorts of information without anyone knowing what I am doing. If she's 'interested in me' for that, then it would make a bit more sense.

She told me she wants you dead because your ability is something she finds dangerous.

[So. That sure is a thing.]

But I agree, I think it may have something to do with powers. You didn't happen to learn of anyone else she's interested in, did you, Raven?

No, because she mentioned that misdirection was proving to be effective.

In context, this is after I asked her if she was upset about Shin's note.

It's possible that she IS interested in others but wants us to keep guessing. She told me that she does intend on sending the survivors home, and the way she spoke of it made it sound like I would be included in that number as long as I didn't die.

Oh, absolutely. That mention of misdirection could be a misdirection in itself. And I wouldn't trust that she'll make good on that promise.

I'm not putting all of my faith in that promise, but I've given it some of my consideration. If nothing else, she has been good at keeping to her word so far.

I don't think we can trust that. It sounds like she's interesting in keeping a few survivors as assistants.

Did she mention something like that to you? She spoke highly of Dist and seems to be interested in keeping him around.

It said it in that letter that Erik took. She's planning on sending two or three new conspirators.

Are they willing to go, though?

[he's not naming names but he can think of 2-3 people who would want to go with her.]

Do you think she'd care if they are willing to go? She's used to taking whatever she wants.

That's my point: if they're willing or not does make a difference.

I wonder who exactly she has in mind.

If she seems fond or particular about anyone, then it's a safe bet it's them.

It does have to do with our original powers, I'm sure. I don't think the abilities we were given here are particularly exceptional in this instance.

How do your original powers work?

...keep in mind that this information is, in my world at least, of national importance and normally needs special security clearances to know about. So I would prefer it if this was kept among the people present.

If I touch an inanimate object- a book, a knife, whatever- then I see what happened in that object's past. So if you and Iago have tea together, for example, then I could touch one of your teacups and see your entire conversation. Or I could go back even further than that, to the person who used that teacup before you. I see it as if I lived what happened.

If I touch something that is alive, then I can read their memories.

In both situations, the information is imprinted in my brain with photographic accuracy, and suffers no deterioration over time. If I want to recall a memory I saw 10 years ago, then I will see it with the same clarity as I saw it the first time.

So far, only one person has ever been able to prevent me from using this power. It is absolute, and no amount of mental blocks or willpower can prevent me from seeing the past.

[ Lifting a hand. ]

That would be me. My ability is nullification.

[ Which would be useful to have here. ]

...That's impressive. It's no wonder it caught The Lady's attention.

I'm not surprised she'd want something like that. The amount of information you can obtain through an ability like this sounds endless.
