INVESTIGATION 3

The clock strikes eight. It's a chilly morning, made even frostier by the fierce winds that would assault your body should you decide to step out onto the streets of Krakow. It seems that during the night, some light snow made its way down, blanketing the city in a layer of fluffy white, almost even covering up some of the puddles left by yesterday's destruction. Of course, that's only superficial; the water still remains on the streets as slick, icy sheets uncovered by the howling winds. And in the same way that the frigid winds care little for the tranquility of the snow, yesterday's violent disruption was a strike against the usual Thursday happenings.

Well, a reminder isn't so bad every now and then. After all, it's Friday morning and there's a motive out for the taking. The gusts send up a dusting of fine snow every now and then, but it's not so terrible that it's impossible to take a stroll or search for clues in the half moon's light. So, where to?

[ Okay, so he's here already. What is obvious about the state of the bodies at first glance? Assuming the Olivert is the oen who looks more peaceful here, but making sure that's true. ]

[Well, both of them are propped up against the wall of the freezer beside each other, although Olivert is more hunched over compared to Sirius, who sits there with more of his back against the wall.

There aren't any obvious wounds on Olivert and he pretty much looks how he usually does with his regal crimson outfit; the only thing out of place is how some of his hair falls loose and hangs out in front of his face in a way that's a bit uncharacteristic of his normal well-groomed appearance.

As for Sirius, his wings are half-spread on either side of him, looking droopy and limp and painted lightly with blood near the tips. As mentioned before, he has a very obvious slit throat and it's clear that it was bleeding at some point because there are obvious bloodstains on his front. There's also some dark-colored stuff that may be visible on the palm of his right hand, but the angle isn't great for examining that.

Considering they both have a bit of frost coating them, they definitely have been here for sometime.]

[ He'll start with Sirius since more has been done to him.

Let's check the dark-colored stuff on the palm of his right hand. Does it look like anything? Is there going to be a chlorine smell coming from it or Sirius in general? ]

[His hand is still more or less on the ground and just kind of... lightly curled up on its side so hopefully Dazai is okay with sticking his face close because it's hard to see otherwise. It doesn't look like anything in particular, it's just more like a dried black smear on his palm.

There is no chlorine smell coming from Sirius! Or the stain, for that matter.]

[ Guess someone was handy with the ground.

He'll come back to that later. Let's check the more obvious wound then. Looking at Sirius' throat wound.

Does it look like it's been done with a serrated blade or a more even blade? Is it a thinner cut or a wider cut? Does it look like someone slit their throat in front of them or from behind? ]

[Definitely something even, it's too clean of a cut for that. It's not a super wide cut, but neither is it super thin, too; it's kind of hard to tell at this point though, considering how he's leaning back against the wall, so the bend of his neck ends up widening the wound a little.

The cut is more consistent with someone slitting his throat from the front!]

[ With them being a little frosty, it might not be a good idea to move anything on the body just yet and risk damaging it further.

Okay, time to check out the blood on his chest. Is it just from blood dripping down or does it appear like it could have come from a wound? And since he has clothes on, let's carefully check under that shirt to see what's happening on his chest. ]

[The blood is definitely from dripping down; there are no wounds anywhere on the chest, which does match up with the autopsy report at least. There doesn't look like there's anything else wrong either, although in fairness it's probably harder to tell with Sirius considering he has green skin and everything. Suffice it to say though, there's nothing else wrong with his front!]

[ Maybe he should steal the autopsy report from Rideaux.

Okay, good to know he has nothing up front. Time to put that shirt back in place then. So let's check out the blood on the tips of his feathers next. Does it look consistent with cast off pattern from someone slitting his throat or does it look like it came from something else (like being close to Olivert's murder)? ]

[For one thing, it's pretty obvious that the wings themselves aren't injured, but it doesn't look like cast off either. More like they've just been smeared with blood because it's kind of just matted through.]

[ Did someone just... wipe the blood off using his feathers?

And okay... let's carefully pull him forward and away from the wall. Time to check his back. What do we have here? ]

Anyways, moving him is sure to be a fun experience considering the body's all stiffened up from the cold, but eventually Dazai can spot some blood staining Sirius' clothing at his mid back. The hole in the clothes means that Dazai can kind of spot the wound there too, which looks pretty consistent with a stab.]

and fun, a stab. He's going to pull out his swiss army pocket knife. Pulling the shirt away from the back and just cutting out the shirt in a square hole to get it away from the back wound. Sorry for messing up your shirt, but he also doesn't want to wrestle the wings.

Is the stab wound wider than the slit on the throat? Does it look like a single stab? Also is the wound about where the tips of his feathers smeared with blood would sit if they were folded on his back? ]

[It looks like a single, clean stab and the width is... comparable at this point, more or less? What with the throat wound having been widened up by the position of the body and all.

Also no, the wing tips would go further down than where the wound is at!]

[ A little later because he was busy coughing outside the freezer after getting through the kitchen, ugh, but he's also here.

He has to resist the urge to sigh out loud at Dazai's presence here, but... fine. ]

I'll take the other, then, I suppose.

[ Hello, Olivert. This feels like karma after that food from the party.

Glancing at the wound diagram since there's nothing immediately obvious at first glance... Let's unbutton (?) whatever he's wearing to get a look at the neck, then. ]

[Ah yes, the sweet smell of pool in the morning. It's almost as good as coffee when it comes to waking you up but with 5x the risk of respiratory problems.

Anyway, let's! Unbuttoning will definitely help because the collar is covering the mark somewhat, but so is some of the hair; brushing that away will reveal a moderately-sized, purple, welt-like mark on the skin. Hm!]

[ Hm indeed! How many inches are we are talking when we say "moderately-sized"? What kind of shape does it have? ]

[About 4 inches wide, give or take? It's more or less circular in shape, although the purple color and swelling are more pronounced at the center of it.]

[ Is there anything else visible toward the center if he looks closely, then? Any kind of puncture mark or something? ]

[No puncture at all! The most that can be said about the center is that it just looks worse compared to the edges of it all.]

[ So not a giant bite from the cousin of that weird laboratory bug, then. Probably for the best.

Does it just look like swelling from an impact, then? ]

[It definitely doesn't look like a bug bite, thank god.

Oddly enough, it doesn't look quite like a bruise either; the color is more comparable to something like cyanosis rather than the hemorrhaging you'd get from a bruise.

...How familiar is Rideaux with frostburn?]

[ Familiar enough; it's not something he sees on a regular basis, but there are missions that take Spirius agents out to the tundra (which is right next to the lava tubes where his Mysterious Beads come from!!!) so he's almost definitely treated it before.

Also that is probably going to come to mind when they're inside a freezer. ]

[Xillia geography continues to be a thing.

But anyways!! It looks similar enough to some cases of frostburn, so there's that. At the very least, the appearance of the swelling should tell him that whatever made this mark happened when Olivert was still alive, too.]
