WEEK 1

WEEK 1

Your hosts have come and gone, and have left you with nothing but more questions and a key. Regardless of how you reacted or what you decided to do soon after that, it’s a fact that the day must end eventually.

And so it does, with the striking of the clock. As the twelve gongs reverberate and disappear into the night, the rest of the city is left silent save for a chilly wind that skims the streets. Those who have retired to their assigned rooms will find that the furnishings are decent enough to get a good night’s sleep, while those who wander the city will only continue to see empty streets and fog. But regardless of how you spend the night, eventually it will become readily apparent that dawn will not be coming any time soon as the waxing moon continues to hang in the sky even as the clock strikes six or seven or eight.

No one’s stopping you from wallowing in bed or holing up in a building during this perpetual night, but there’s a whole city out there to check out and some interesting additions to the Opera House decor; don’t forget though, a cage is a cage and every good cage needs its bars. While a portion of the streets and buildings are clear, any intrepid explorers won’t find themselves able to get very far through the fog that surrounds them; anyone who tries to venture through will end up getting turned around and end up right back where they started. Still, there’s plenty of other places to check, even if the fog-shrouded buildings are more or less off limits. Fortune favors the bold, after all.

[[Welcome to Week 1! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also now privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt at your leisure!]]
drydrown: the magna carta's a nice suggestion (HAUGHTY ♡ judging like john marshall)

I'm usually up well before dawn, personally, so it's a bit disconcerting to expect some sort of change out there and receive nothing reasonable.

[this perpetual night thing sucks, it's going to throw off his internal clock so bad...]

Perhaps I just wanted to check on you; last night was a bit...much, overall.

[There's a pause from Dist like he's attempting to process that. This is a gesture that he's not used to at all and it shows.]

...Oh. Th-Thank you.

[He continues, despite not knowing what to do with his face.]

"Much" is a word for it, I suppose. I would venture to call it a disaster.

[Especially for him. It was highly embarrassing.]

Would you like to come inside and talk? This is hardly a conversation for the doorway. [He steps back to allow Cumore access if he wants it.] I am just having breakfast, so I am not busy.
drydrown: we have no use for you here (TCH ♡ looks like you've been busy)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-07 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I would like that, yes.

[Shall we, then - god, why are these rooms so bad. Like, he'll come in because he assumes you don't have the plague but these rooms in general are just kind of depressing.]

I don't know if I'd say it went entirely poorly. But it was at best highly obnoxious - I really don't know who these people think they are.
ortion: (❀ just no)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-07 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[He offers Cumore a spot on his bed if he wants to sit. In turn, he takes a seat at his basic desk. Believe him Cumore, he hates it too...]

Truly the question for the ages. While we did get some answers, I just... [He grumbles as he stabs at his shitty omelette.] Didn't you hear what she said later? Despite my refusal, she wants to keep me here!

[Provided he lives, apparently. But this is what he has chosen to fixate on because things always have to be about him.]
drydrown: the magna carta's a nice suggestion (HAUGHTY ♡ judging like john marshall)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-07 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[He'll sit after a moment, delicately, though his words continue to be a bit on the hard side.]

To which I say it's fortunate that what she wants doesn't matter, isn't it.
ortion: (❀ taken aback)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-07 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
W-Well yes, it is...

[He calms down for a moment, only to nervously fuss with his plate some more.]

But it doesn't relieve that nagging sense of powerlessness I've faced since waking up here. We still don't even know how she got us here.
drydrown: those plates are totally relevant and useful (CAST ♡ mimura said what now)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-07 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[He tips his head a bit at that, letting his gaze focus on nothing in particular for a moment while he sorts out what he thinks of all that; it's a fair point, really, and his own grasp on his emotions has been not great since all this started - even when he's presenting well his grasp on what he's doing generally feels about three seconds from snapping like a twig at any given moment. But that's not what anyone wants to hear, and it's not what he likes to show people if it can be helped, so after a moment he refocuses on Dist and he kind of draws up a bit where he's sitting, and his words are thankfully remaining even when he speaks to address all of that.]

Well, if we've already decided we're going to survive this, that's one bit of power we're not giving her. Perhaps we don't know how she got us here, no... And perhaps we can't do anything about it, at least not now. But what we choose to do for the time being is certainly enough - she can't plan for everything, and honestly, I would like nothing more than for the lot of us to show her what a grievous error she's made in dragging us into this.

She's not going to do anything to you because you won't allow it, and really, that's all it needs to come down to.
ortion: (❀ snowfall)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-07 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[When Cumore speaks back up, Dist faces him and listens in earnest. And honestly? He really did need to hear all of this. Since when has he ever let someone else dictate his life and his goals?

...

(we're not counting Jade)

So when Cumore is finished with his pep-talk, Dist smiles.]

You are entirely correct. It has only been one day, so I really ought to stop wallowing. There is still plenty to work with and much more to discover as long as we keep denying her what she wants from us.

[His ego might've taken a hit last night, but he can still muster up some bravado.]

If she is so desperate to use me, then I've no doubt that there is something that I can do for our own benefit. We simply need to find me the tools.
drydrown: but how much do you want it? (Default)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-01-07 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
There you go.

[He's decent at talking people back up when they need it, he just usually only bothers for like. Awful people? And there's usually a lot more CLASSISM YAY involved but there isn't any need for that just yet.]

I can hardly imagine anyone settling into such desperation so quickly; we have time. The sooner we resolve this, the better, obviously, but things aren't that dire yet.

[this man is going to be screaming into his hands by the end of the day and for most of the day tomorrow. that's fine.]

Either way, I would hate to think you'd given up already.
ortion: (❀ mad science)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-08 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Dist the Rose doesn't give up. You may always count on me for that.

[And that's both a blessing and a curse, honestly. Where would he be if he gave up like Jade?]

I will start looking further into getting the power on straight away today. That should allow us to work in a much larger scope.
