Kira isn't just 'one person'. Kira was saving our whole global society. The crime rate has been reduced by 70% percent. Wars have all but stopped.

In a completely rotten world in which nobody could live safely or securely, Kira has begun establishing order.

Letting him die isn't a matter of failing to protect an individual, it's... It's sacrilege.
