From what you can see, all the lights in the opera house are turned on. Only when you enter and see the open doors that lead into the main theater, you can see that room's lights are currently turned off. It's very dark in there.

Like before, Rembrandt escorts everybody to the stage. In the dark you still can see the many blue-eyed things you may be getting used to. They're still very scared of Rembrandt, staying as far away from the assistant as possible. The stage is illuminated by the spotlights, the only light in this theater.

The Lady and Rembrandt are at their balcony. She stands up, addressing the group:

"If you don't make this trial go like I want it, every single person in this room is getting vivisected!"

It has been a couple hours and she's still furious. It doesn't seem like her mood is going to improve anytime soon...if ever. Behind her, Rembrandt doesn't seem very impressed with her gratuitous threat. At least she probably won't get to make good on that threat, hm?

Let the trial for the death of Dist the Rose begin.

He was only actually shot once, though. Given that he was likely caught off guard and not running away or putting up a fight or anything, it seems odd that one would have missed the target unless they were either relatively inexperienced or in a panic.

Though I suppose that second shot could have been fired at the wall deliberately to make us think that as well.

Given that there was almost no other evidence left to be found, it sounds like they had this planned out. It seems unlikely that they'd use a weapon they're unfamiliar with - and even if that was the case, surely it would have taken more than one shot to kill him?

No, being killed by a single shot is perfectly plausible, depending on where it hits. Even if it doesn't hit a vital organ, it's still very easy to die from bleeding out if it hits an artery.

And he was shot someplace vital, is that correct? How likely is it that someone inexperienced with a gun would be able to manage that?

Not exactly. It was roughly in the middle of his chest, not directly through the heart or anything. It's certainly much more likely to get a fatal shot if the user is experienced, but it's not impossible if they aren't. Accidental shooting deaths definitely aren't unheard of, even.

I also don’t think it would be impossible to learn how to use a gun while here, either, though I would imagine it wouldn’t be particularly difficult to run into someone working that out, either. They’re fairly loud, if I recall from what I’ve read of them correctly.

They are. You could use Sonui to muffle the sounds, but Dazai would have no reason to practice in the first place - at least I strongly assume so.

That would be a stupid place to shoot it if they wanted to look inexperienced. It would have been better to keep shooting the same wall as the first bullet.

I do keep going back to that. Why would anyone shoot the door frame?

I don't like bringing up powers, but there is a possibility of klados. Maybe Dist's double was out and was shot at?

Let's assume that for a moment. They shoot Dist and then walk over to about two feet away from his body. Then they shoot the door frame and drop the gun there.

Did they see something outside? Maybe they thought there was a witness or maybe Dist had his copy out to help?

If Dist panicked at suddenly lights off and used a Klados replica to try to distract the killer, then that could explain it.

Depending on how close the clone was, it could've been a little messy for the killer. They definitely didn't have time to do anything but paper towel their hands, though.

...Which leaves us with a few possibilities for potential checks. How likely do you think that some of that residue got on the killer's shoes and they didn't notice, for example?

Another idea is... What if the lights weren't turned off when he was shot? He may have had his clone out already to assist him in his project.

The hole in the wall was the one with the bloody bullet—that's the one that must've been aimed at Dist. The bullet from the door looked more normal.
