It's a quiet night as the silence remains unbroken. Without the toll of the clock tower, only a choice few will be able to discern the time as the hands on all four faces remain fixed at 9:27. And yet, even those without any means of checking the time will probably get the picture: it's been four consecutive weeks of death already, so what makes this one any different? So even though the lines between days may blur and tangle together, time still marches on and deadlines continue to draw closer.

The time is ████. Is there a reason to be out in the streets right now? Maybe.

[ OKAY he's here. Let's pretend he woo-loo'd off to grab the file before coming back armed with more candles to light up and place in different place.

Time to check out the body first. Is there anything on his clothes (checking the back first). ]

[Dist is already facedown, so at least checking his back won't really be a pain to do. Either way, there's one hole in his upper mid back, and unsurprisingly, his plain pink dress shirt is dyed red with blood right there too. There aren't any other wounds visible from his current position, although the front of his shirt (and some of his slacks) are totally getting ruined by the puddle of blood he's lying in, so that's surely a tragedy in and of itseld.]

[ He's wearing plain shit, which means he was indeed working late in here.

He's going to try to move one of Dist's arms to check if he's all stiff yet to see if rigor mortis has set in. ]

[His arm is still limp, so definitely no rigor mortis yet! Moving his arm also doesn't reveal anything new either, because there's nothing unusual about it.]

[ That sets in about three to four hours after death... is he still warm?

And okay he's just going to carefully roll him over to check him out. Sorry you don't look fabulous, Dist. ]

[Depends on what he's checking to determine temperature, but Dist is pretty much completely clothed (which includes his hands because gloves), so it might be hard to tell like this.

He's still in a puddle of blood so the back of his clothes will totally get ruined if he's just rolled over like that?? But anyways, his entire front is pretty much soaked through with blood as expected, although it doesn't take any effort to see that there's also a small hole on the front of his torso as well.]

Is there a bullet on the ground under the body? ]

[His neck is... well, it's not super cold but it's not that warm either. The neck itself doesn't exactly have the most mass, though.

There isn't a bullet on the ground, but there's a bullet casing a couple feet away from the body!]

[ Okay, so we'll do a trade off then and let Rideaux take over the body checking out since Rideaux wants a shot.

He's going to sit up Dist first though, and lean him side ways into the work bench.

OKAY time to go check out that bullet casing. What size does it look like it's from? Is there any indication of the size to verify it on the bottom of the casing? Also was it location behind where the body originally was? ]

[ Okay, taking over the body check, then. Let's just get this bloody shirt off, actually. What are we noting re: livor mortis?

Also, can he get a more accurate temperature if he feels his lower abdomen or something (he is not wearing gloves rn)................... like, if he has to get a meat thermometer from the opera house kitchen to get a more conclusive determination he can, but everyone would probably rather not go there. ]

I'm not trying to be contrary here; I just think you'd be better at investigating the things that have to do with guns, and I know what I'd be better at.

[ SO FAR it looks like just the gun shot but that alone could be something to throw them off considering the other cases. Or it's just a gun shot wound. ]

[ He'll leave anything body-related to Rideaux and Dazai. He also helpfully (or not-so-helpfully depending on how bright lux is) leaves two lux daggers hanging by Dazai if he needs even more light. You know, in case?? In case.

The other two can follow him around as he pokes about! For now, he's mostly looking at the floor and maybe shelves to see if there's anything that shouldn't be here. ]

[There's nothing out of place about the shelves, but checking the floor is a good call because there's a couple of very obvious items of interest near Dist's body. One of the things is a flashlight near where one of Dist's hands are and the other is a gun, about a couple feet away from the body.

Which one are you going to look at first?]

[ Congratulations on living your best life, shelves!

And that's a toughie, so—why not both? It's probably safe to just pick them up with his bandaged hand but he'll crouch down to check if sure there's anything visible on them first. There's no way he wants to like, accidentally have his thumb rub important evidence off of something. ]

[Beyond having some blood because of half-sitting in a puddle of it, the flashlight doesn't have any other visibly markings or whatnot on it.

Similarly, the gun doesn't really have anything visible on it although it at least hasn't been swimming in blood, so it looks pretty clean.]

[ That figures 'cause it was close to Dist but, look, you can almost never be too careful!! Except when you can. Anyway, he'll pick up the flashlight with his bandaged hand, touching it as little as possible.

Okay!! Uhh, is the flashlight broken anywhere? And if he tries to flick it on, will it come on? ]

[The flashlight looks intact and fine, which is corroborated by the fact that it turns on just fine when Erik flicks the switch because you can never stop lighting up people's lives. (Except when they're dead, probs.)]

[ How sweet!! Make way, Luminary, he's about to have a new #1! And thankfully it seems like nothing is abnormal with the flashlight. Unless it's powered by potatoes not batteries, and if it is Erik will never know anyway. He sets the flashlight to the side and makes his way over to the gun!

Okay, now he's gotta stop and think. He's pretty sure guns fire in a straight line so can he like... figure out the trajectory of the bullet based on where he is now? Or, like, line up where the shooter might've been standing based on what Dist's position was? ]

[How's he's doing this, first of all? Drawing a line from where the gun is on the ground to Dist's body or something else?]

[ Since it's hard to see, he's gonna use a lux dagger to try and like... "shoot" in that direction! It's a very scientific process. ]
