WEEK 5

WEEK 5

Was what happened on Friday yet another tragedy in a string of them or just a complete shitshow? Well, regardless of which line of thought you subscribe to, the reality of it is that another three of your number are no longer in this realm with you. At least the remains of what had happened last week have been neatly cleaned up as always, even if that might not change what’s been etched in your memories. The drum set in the jazz bar remains busted though, because the masterminds aren't that generous. At least the tarot shop and boutique remain fine even if the vanished crystals and women's clothing aren't going to be restocked.

But either way, it’s a new week, and that means new locations to explore as the fog gives way to more of the city and its lamplit streets. The new moon waxes to half this week, appearing as a crescent moon for most of the week. It's far from optimistic, but maybe the brightening is a sign that this will be over soon...? Or maybe it just means the worst is yet to come, it's hard to say.

[[Welcome to Week 5! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 5 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]
baitless: an expression that can serve as either deep frustration or, perhaps, some level of grief. who can say. (i am so tired all of the time.)

[yeah, thanks, lady, that’s great. You’ll never reel Seteth in like this, you know! It’s one thing to have the other Survivors know all those secrets, even if he’s not sure he trusts all of them with them, but it’s quite another to have all of Fódlan know them...

Sigh. He’s going to try and spend the day attempting to keep his mind off it, but he may not be particularly successful. He had wanted to figure out the arcade, at the very least, so now that he sees it’s been fixed up, he’s going to go in and try some of the games out. He’s not really sure if he’s into them or if it’s just the novelty of something he’s unfamiliar with, but, well, figuring out how to beat the crap out of the other punchmans in Not Street Fighter isn’t a bad form of stress relief, even if he isn’t terribly good at it yet.

Eventually, though, he gets kind of frustrated with losing and heads to the church, where he figures he should try to pray for some sort of intervention, or at least for some form of comfort. But that eventually frustrates him too, as he finds himself staring at the depictions of good ol’ Jesus Christ and sighing.]

...are you even in a position to listen, I wonder? Either of you.

[fuck it, at least the aquarium’s nice, he’ll try to relax there. You know where you’re at with fish. No wonder Flayn likes them so much.

...goddess, he misses her every day, but now, the worry is even more evident on his face as he stares at the fish. Byleth is a competent leader and he trusts her, but... how would things change if this all got out?

Siiiiiigh.]

church;

[ Rean came in here himself...to pray no one would act, as useless as it might be. But goddess, he had to at least still had faith. Jesus is actually mentioned in Trails world, so he at least recognizes the one ]

...It would be nice, wouldn't it? If they were able to talk back, or give some indication they were listening.
baitless: he looks a bit tired, but less intensely so. (how vaguely and unhelpfully can i put it)

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-05 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
...Indeed, it would.

[He ponders continuing, but...]

...

That is the thing about faith, though, is it not? You have to simply trust that they do.

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-02-05 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, yeah.

It seems that's really the one constant between all faiths. Though, I also think that kind of thinking also helps to have when you're pushing forward relentlessly in a difficult situation.

[ To have that trust that you're able to get done what must be done. To never give up when all was seemingly lost, and the skies had darkened pitch black with darkness. To keep moving forward, no matter what. ]

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-06 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's true, isn't it? Even if an intervention would be preferred, I've generally found it more helpful to try and ask for strength to deal with things than to wait around for something.

[...]

I just hope everyone at home stays safe in the coming days. I do not want to give the Lady her satisfaction, and I am not even sure if she is capable of delivering on her threat, but...

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-02-06 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel that exact same way.

[ And he's really glad, honestly. That Seteh would. ]

...I understand. It's still something that she's never done before, and I have my doubts myself that she could extend her reach in telling so many people secrets of others across a multiple of worlds. So at the least, I think there's comfort in that.

Even if it's still something to worry about. I know you have got your situation back home, and someone among us might consider acting anyway.

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-08 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I think there is too, but... hm. She has already accomplished several things that seemed impossible to me before this.

[worry worry worry worry worry...]

...I suppose whatever happens will happen, and we will simply have to deal with them as it does.

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-02-09 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
While that's certainly true, I'd like to think that there was a limit to her capabilities. She's not really some kind of god or goddess.

[ Oh Seteth...he'll try to give the other a light reassuring pat on the shoulder. ]

But yes, that's true.

...Still, whatever comes, I'm sure we'll be able to end up facing it like we've always have. So let's do our best to make sure the Lady isn't the one who's victorious in the end.

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-09 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, of course not. It's just... the uncertainty, you know. What if she can do it, through some means we don't entirely understand.

...but yes. That's the most important thing. I cannot imagine that if we fail, she will just stop at us.
reanbeans: (92)

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-02-09 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand.

[ ...Really, he did. ]

Speaking of stopping her...I wonder when we're able to do that, what we could even do with her? I don't think she'll be easy to keep locked up, but considering her ability, it doesn't seem like the alternative will make it easier.

[ He didn't want her to like. Hop bodies? That'd just suck. ]

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-09 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
...I have absolutely no idea, honestly. Perhaps there's some way to just... seal her away somehow, like some sort of ancient evil?

[it's half in jest, but honestly, he would almost not be surprised if that was the solution....]
reanbeans: (27)

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-02-10 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Sealing her away...

[ He practically lights up at that, though it shifted to something less enthusiastic because he didn't want to count his chickens before they hatched. ]

If there's a method to do that, that'd be the perfect way to deal with her. Seriously, nice thinking Seteth.
baitless: bringing a hand up to his face thoughtfully. (chai... just means tea...)

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-10 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
...I was mostly throwing ideas at the wall, but honestly, that seems like the best course of action in the long run. Of course, you would have to find a way to ensure she couldn't break out...
reanbeans: (110)

[personal profile] reanbeans 2020-02-11 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It'd have to be a very tight seal and then maybe wherever she was sealed we'd make sure no one could reach it to break her out.

[ Finally getting around to exploring this place when it's not a smoldering murder scene... He definitely wouldn't have taken Seteth as a potential gamer, but it doesn't feel like a surprise to see him here either. ]

At least we're meeting here under better circumstances this time.

[ His eyes kind of linger for a moment on the spot where Alfyn's body was, actually.

...Well, anyway. ]

They don't have any games like this where you're from, I assume.

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-07 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, indeed.

[hm, okay, block, but how does he do the uppercut...]

We have nothing like this where I am from. I had been curious about it before the events of the weekend, so I am pleased to see it was restored to its original state.

...It's getting a bit difficult to avoid places where there hasn't been a murder, so...

[...sigh.]
pr159: (i left that part out)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-02-08 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just glad the bar's been left relatively unscathed.

[ Going to watch over his shoulder... ]

Not sure if it applies here, but I think a lot of these types of games have special moves that require you to quickly press a specific sequence of buttons.

[ Hexentia XXO ]

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-09 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes. There is that, at the very least...

[...oh, how did it go...]

The screen where I picked my character did have button combinations, but I keep having difficulty remembering them...
pr159: (but things don't work that way)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-02-09 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, they're not exactly intuitive.

[ Actually, as long as he is here behind his shoulder... and since I'm not sure what Seteth is wearing right now...]

When you get to a stopping point [ i.e. when you inevitably get a game over in the very near future ] do you mind letting me do a quick follow-up check on our little experiment? No breaking or anything, of course.
baitless: bringing a hand up to his face thoughtfully. (chai... just means tea...)

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-10 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I imagine you have to play the games often to memorize them. It's not too different from actual combat, I suppose.

[...he's starting to lose pretty badly, though...]

And no, that's fine. I haven't noticed any changes myself, though an examination on your end would likely be far more fruitful.

[You know, since he can get a better look at them and all.]
pr159: (sell us things which are already ours)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-02-10 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
...No, I think it's still pretty different. In actual combat, you can at least infer that to do a specific kick, you need to move your leg. Pushing an arbitrary button with a symbol on it is hardly the same thing.

[ Maybe if the symbol on the button was actually a leg or something, but. ]

Excellent, thank you.

[ He will wait politely for you to finish gaming and take your shirt off. ]
baitless: bringing a hand up to his face thoughtfully. (chai... just means tea...)

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-11 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that is true, but I meant more... the more you practice and execute things correctly, the more your body remembers what it's supposed to do. It's an abstraction, to be sure...

[...aw, shit, N. Buffalo kicked his ass. oh well.]

...and real combat really is easier than all this nonsense, but. Anyway. Just a moment.

[he takes his shirt off in the arcade, as you do.]
pr159: (then let's hear you say it)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-02-11 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That much is true, yes.

[ All right, let's see what we've got now... thankfully we're far enough back in time that probably no one will walk in on this scene to see Rideaux feeling up a shirtless dilf in an arcade. ]

Interesting. I assume you could tell for yourself that the broken one had regenerated.

[ Since it would have kept getting extra-snagged on stuff otherwise, presumably. ]
baitless: he looks a bit tired, but less intensely so. (how vaguely and unhelpfully can i put it)

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-12 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
[one could almost forget that they're the token heterosexuals.]

Yes, I could. It does beg the question of whether there is a way to get rid of these or if they are permanent, though I suppose I should be prepared to deal with the latter.
pr159: (you can't change the system)

[personal profile] pr159 2020-02-12 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That would probably be wise.

[ "Prepare for the worst and don't bother hoping for the best" has come to be one of his philosophies. ]

The others we marked before don't appear to have grown at all. So it seems there's something of a set size they're supposed to be, which they won't grow beyond and to which they'll regenerate back when broken, apparently fairly quickly.
