Was what happened on Friday yet another tragedy in a string of them or just a complete shitshow? Well, regardless of which line of thought you subscribe to, the reality of it is that another three of your number are no longer in this realm with you. At least the remains of what had happened last week have been neatly cleaned up as always, even if that might not change what’s been etched in your memories. The drum set in the jazz bar remains busted though, because the masterminds aren't that generous. At least the tarot shop and boutique remain fine even if the vanished crystals and women's clothing aren't going to be restocked.

But either way, it’s a new week, and that means new locations to explore as the fog gives way to more of the city and its lamplit streets. The new moon waxes to half this week, appearing as a crescent moon for most of the week. It's far from optimistic, but maybe the brightening is a sign that this will be over soon...? Or maybe it just means the worst is yet to come, it's hard to say.

I would be more than happy to share my thought process as I work on something foreign in the meantime.

[He picks up the phone and flips it open for Iago to take a closer look. It's not powered on at the moment though, because Rideaux would probably shank him for wasting precious battery when he's not actively testing it for a charge.]

It really is a fascinating piece of technology- something that is not at all present in my world. But what Rideaux asked of me should be simple enough, even if I am not entirely familiar with the finer details.

[Because Rideaux would probably kill him if he went to take it apart. The possibilities just keep escalating in violence.]

Interesting... What does it do, exactly?

[He's definitely watching, but he has no idea what he's looking at. He wouldn't know even if it was turned on. What is this bizarre thing.]

It is a device that is used to send messages over long distances, both spoken and written. But the delivery time of these messages to the receiving device is instantaneous.

[He speaks about it like he's just learning about it all over again. It's mind-blowing to him, simply put. And he liked to think that technology was rather advanced in his world!]

The presence of such a device in Auldrant would be a massive step forward for human civilization.

That's incredible. Such technology would revolutionize the way everything is done in Nohr as well. Being able to communicate over such large distances so quickly... It's almost unbelievable.

[Not that he thinks Dist is lying, of course. It's just wild to think that such a thing could exist.]

I do hope you're able to learn more from it; perhaps you can recreate that technology once you return home.

That would be ideal, but I am not sure how feasible it would be to transfer it to fonic technology in Auldrant. You see, something like this would likely require the use of the Seventh Fonon- that of sound.

[Iago has heard about the Seventh Fonon previously, so it's easy to tell why that would be a problem.

He sets the phone down and starts idly tinkering with the scrap while he theorizes aloud.]

But if I can figure out a way around that here...perhaps it isn't impossible. We've certainly got something amazing on our hands for both of our worlds, either way. But I have my doubts that Rideaux would allow me to seriously study its inner workings.

Ah, I see. That certainly would prove problematic.

[Don't fuck around with the Seventh Fonon...]

There's a way for it to exist within Rideaux's world, so perhaps there would be some sort of workaround that would avoid involving the Seventh Fonon entirely. It's possible Rideaux can shed some light on how exactly it works, but a hands-on approach likely would be best. It's a shame that he won't be willing to sacrifice it for the greater good.

[Oh, that gets such a good laugh out of Dist. He has...quite the naturally evil-sounding laugh.]

Only if it benefits him in some way.

[ANYWAY...]

Perhaps I can persuade him to explain some of the details. If nothing else, perhaps the Lady is familiar with these things. I've no doubt that she would explain them to me.

Oh, I have no doubts about that. The Lady is always keen to boast about her knowledge and she seems just as easily fascinated with technology as we both are. If she doesn't know how it works already, I'm certain she'll find the time to devote to figuring it out.

[let her take apart rideaux's phone, great plan!!!]

[Oh that's even better. Dist grins at the thought of the Lady swiping Rideaux's phone to disassemble it. Maybe she'd even invite him along for the dissection!]

That settles it, then. I will ask her about it when I visit her next. I will let you know what she says in the end, of course.

Of course, I am curious to hear how that will go. Anything you can learn from her will prove useful to us, I'm sure.

[He just came out and said it... Listen, the intent to bring smartphones to their worlds is totally their little secret now.]
