WEEK 5

WEEK 5

Was what happened on Friday yet another tragedy in a string of them or just a complete shitshow? Well, regardless of which line of thought you subscribe to, the reality of it is that another three of your number are no longer in this realm with you. At least the remains of what had happened last week have been neatly cleaned up as always, even if that might not change what’s been etched in your memories. The drum set in the jazz bar remains busted though, because the masterminds aren't that generous. At least the tarot shop and boutique remain fine even if the vanished crystals and women's clothing aren't going to be restocked.

But either way, it’s a new week, and that means new locations to explore as the fog gives way to more of the city and its lamplit streets. The new moon waxes to half this week, appearing as a crescent moon for most of the week. It's far from optimistic, but maybe the brightening is a sign that this will be over soon...? Or maybe it just means the worst is yet to come, it's hard to say.

[[Welcome to Week 5! Note that new areas have been added, and can be found under the Week 5 tab on our Locations page. Once again, feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. You can also privately contact The Lady or Rembrandt.]]

[rideaux does not deserve any of this.]

Interesting... What does it do, exactly?

[He's definitely watching, but he has no idea what he's looking at. He wouldn't know even if it was turned on. What is this bizarre thing.]

I suppose I wouldn't be opposed.

[Though he's...kind of a wanted criminal right now so hopefully that's blown over by the time they get there. It's fine. It'll be fine.

Iago can handle Nohr's cold in his dumb dark mage outfit but not Krakow's? smh.]

Charming, perhaps? [That's a little more Iago-sounding than "cute". Maybe.] Miniaturized scenes surrounded in snow... It is not uncommon to find them in the rooms of children in Auldrant.

Tried, yes. But that place has stopped feeling very appetizing and hygienic lately.

[ You know, with all the dead and the dying. At least this kitchen was only used to eat rats. Which is bad enough. God. ]

Hah, if you're sure.

[ and here's where shiro nerds out about cars, like.... futuristic cars? i know nothing about cars please forgive me

What should be even more interesting, though, is that Shiro talks about flying vehicles like they're super commonplace, which they absolutely are! ]

[it'll definitely be fine, there's no way that will ever come back to bite dist at any point...

also why do you think he spent 99% of his time in the castle??]

Yes, charming sounds about right. [also thanks, he's definitely a kid.] We don't have anything quite like this in Nohr; I suppose it's the novelty of it that has me so captivated.

[much like everything else here tbh.]

A fine question... I have wondered what exactly her world is like. Perhaps these "older" cars as you put it are the current cars of her time period?

[That's another thing he should ask her at some point... At least he's getting more discussion pieces for his next visit.]

I will see if she will tell me anything about the missing files. She is tight-lipped about her work, at least as far as what she is doing in Krakow goes.

It is a device that is used to send messages over long distances, both spoken and written. But the delivery time of these messages to the receiving device is instantaneous.

[He speaks about it like he's just learning about it all over again. It's mind-blowing to him, simply put. And he liked to think that technology was rather advanced in his world!]

The presence of such a device in Auldrant would be a massive step forward for human civilization.

[ Humming a little as he closes the hood up again. ]

Let her know you're fascinated about the machines you found in here and couldn't help but noticing there's something missing.

[ He'll look around the autoshop for a moment. ]

Usually there are machines that help with servicing the vehicles.

That's incredible. Such technology would revolutionize the way everything is done in Nohr as well. Being able to communicate over such large distances so quickly... It's almost unbelievable.

[Not that he thinks Dist is lying, of course. It's just wild to think that such a thing could exist.]

I do hope you're able to learn more from it; perhaps you can recreate that technology once you return home.

[...you got me there. Ah, the things Iago will do to get away with his dumb clothes. At least he has suits now!

ALSO THAT WAS AN UNINTENDED SIDE EFFECT. Listen, he can't talk. His robots look like overgrown children's toys with guns and drills slapped on.]

Krakow must be massively different than Nohr, hm? Strangely, it is not unlike Keterburg in some ways to me, the more I stop to consider it. The primary difference is that Keterburg is snowy year-round, and it has a massive port on Keterburg Bay. Though I suppose there could be a port hidden in the fog somewhere...

[neither of us are adults, despite us being some of the oldest normal-aged people left alive.]

Ah, is it? Fascinating... Nohr is land-locked; our neighboring country Nestra is located on the ocean and I've been to one of the port towns there, but I imagine Keterburg is vastly different.

[it's not like keterburg is a town devoted to entertainment or anything, right............]

I assume we won't be permitted to find anything of the sort even if it does exist; they don't want us to try to escape, after all.

[You are totally fine, I don't either.

But Dist sure is into this car talk. The flying aspect in particular definitely catches his attention. He has one of those...sort of. It's not a car, but it sure flies.]

How are they constructed to allow for flight? This is something that is in its infancy in Auldrant.

[There's his chair and the Albiore and that's...kinda it.]

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-02-04 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Huh... He hasn't really spent a ton of time in here outside of talking to Rembrandt, so is there anything immediately noteworthy about any of the lighting? Anything that looks different from the other lit buildings, at least, since Iago is obviously no expert on all things electricity.]

And you don't trust the Milk Bar?

baitless: an expression that can serve as either deep frustration or, perhaps, some level of grief. who can say. (i am so tired all of the time.)

[personal profile] baitless 2020-02-04 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[yeah, thanks, lady, that’s great. You’ll never reel Seteth in like this, you know! It’s one thing to have the other Survivors know all those secrets, even if he’s not sure he trusts all of them with them, but it’s quite another to have all of Fódlan know them...

Sigh. He’s going to try and spend the day attempting to keep his mind off it, but he may not be particularly successful. He had wanted to figure out the arcade, at the very least, so now that he sees it’s been fixed up, he’s going to go in and try some of the games out. He’s not really sure if he’s into them or if it’s just the novelty of something he’s unfamiliar with, but, well, figuring out how to beat the crap out of the other punchmans in Not Street Fighter isn’t a bad form of stress relief, even if he isn’t terribly good at it yet.

Eventually, though, he gets kind of frustrated with losing and heads to the church, where he figures he should try to pray for some sort of intervention, or at least for some form of comfort. But that eventually frustrates him too, as he finds himself staring at the depictions of good ol’ Jesus Christ and sighing.]

...are you even in a position to listen, I wonder? Either of you.

[fuck it, at least the aquarium’s nice, he’ll try to relax there. You know where you’re at with fish. No wonder Flayn likes them so much.

...goddess, he misses her every day, but now, the worry is even more evident on his face as he stares at the fish. Byleth is a competent leader and he trusts her, but... how would things change if this all got out?

Siiiiiigh.]

Ah, I see. Most of the art I am familiar with generally serves some sort of additional purpose beyond just being art for art’s sake, though there’s always room for personal creative expression. I would imagine that if you are not working for a patron or a religious institution, you have much more freedom to go off in strange new directions.

[...You know, this is likely just continuing the trend of "not sure if enabling or what" but- ]

...Dare I ask why you're more interested in taking these things than the actual artwork? I'd imagine the artwork itself would be worth a fair amount once we're done here.

[cumore continues to be the worst influence(???), news at ten]

I fully intend to take what I can at some point. I see no reason to bother with that right now, however. Rembrandt seems fond of the place, and I don't want to risk irritating him.

[but once rembrandt is no longer a concern, he's stealing all the valuable shit!!!]

These are simply interesting.

[shakes a snowglobe for emphasis!!!]

[They seem sort of like something Estelle would like. His taste and hers don't tend to overlap outside of a general fondness for pink.]

Anyway, what brings you here? Exploring the new areas we have access to now?
drydrown: (WINK ♡ rip you all to pieces of course!)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-02-04 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. This is one of the few places I've found tolerable lately.

[Artwork is nice, okay.]

I don't always recognize what they're trying to do, but I can at least appreciate the effort behind it.
psychophant: (✦ 92)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-02-04 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pleased I'm not the only one who doesn't recognize this, at least. It's certainly interesting, I'll give them that.

[There's so much about art he just doesn't Get, but this is everything all on display at once. It's wild. Artists are so weird.]
drydrown: the magna carta's a nice suggestion (HAUGHTY ♡ judging like john marshall)

[personal profile] drydrown 2020-02-04 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always liked places like this. I find them calming, if nothing else... Ruins can be as well, but there's always the chance of getting killed in there. Monsters and all.
psychophant: (✦ 98)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-02-04 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Understandable; dealing with monsters sounds incredibly annoying. I didn't take you as the sort to be interested in ruins, though.
