WELCOME

Welcome

Good morning.

Or perhaps it might be more appropriate to say good evening instead, considering how it is moonlight that will rouse you into consciousness. And what a bright moon it is, half-full and clear without contest in the sky as it outshines the stars and galaxies in the backdrop. But it’s all the better to emphasize that the buildings that speckle the landscape before you are all completely devoid of any light. And by the way—do you always sleep outside?

The lack of light can be something to deal with later though, at least when you've properly gotten up from the cold, unyielding stone below you. And that chill down your spine—no doubt that probably has something to do with combination of cool temperatures and poor sleeping conditions, but it’s odd how it seems to linger.

Checking your person for any items that should be in your possession yields disappointing results, but it seems you're not empty handed (or pocketed) because you are now the proud owner of one (1) small bundle of black cloth. Unwrapping it reveals a key imprinted with a roman numeral, along with a simple note.

“Come at 6PM to the place circled on this map:”

“Don’t be tardy, dear Survivors, that’d be a bad first impression. If you don’t want your stay here to be more unpleasant than it’ll already be, you’ll want to avoid seeming careless or disrespectful. You’ll want to listen to my opening speech~!”

Finally, after an empty space that may be simulating an intense pause, there’s one last line:

“I know what you’re thinking, so I’ll say it straight: if you don’t come, you’re as good as dead.

The news likely isn't welcome, but it's a start. And it seems you're not alone in your plight, though whether company is within arm's length or a stone’s throw away is up to fortune’s whims. For now, you're free to explore the town square and the surrounding areas as best you can in the dim light.

For some reason or another, Krakow, Poland is now your new home. That much is clear from the sign posts that you can inexplicably read, as red and white flag posts with "Święto Niepodległości" flutter lightly in the wind. While the storefronts are dark, the street lamps that scatter the town provide some measure of light, providing some solace against the layer of fog that's begun to creep in.

( OOC: Welcome to Antumbra! This intro log occurs ICly Sunday. Your MM's will be around at 6pm EST to hear your complaints. )

Ah, fascinating. [That's actually not sarcastic.] Care to tell me a little about what you've worked on?
ortion: (❀ I FUCKING LOVE TYPING)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-05 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Iago no, don't invite him to ramble...]

But of course! My particular area of expertise is fonic technology- machines infused with magic, to put it in layman's terms. [Because he's not ready to potentially be asked what fonons are.] The scope of fonic technology's potential is wide, ranging from simple appliances to military weaponry. If I am called to the front lines, I come with a fontech robot.

[thank you for cutting that question off at the pass...]

Fascinating... That is an excellent use of magic, and I imagine there aren't many who would be able to compare to the scope of what you're able to create with it. Tell me more about this "fontech robot".

[like yeah, sounds cool, but tell him about the stuff that can be used for war!!!!]
ortion: (❀ beginning of the end)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-05 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
How right you are! No one can hope to compare to my caliber.

[Oh god Iago stop flattering him.......

Anyway:]

A robot is a machine that I directly control the movements of! Since I augment it with fonon technology, it is capable of using many fonic artes- magic, if you will. I have found the most success in pairing them fire artes.

But the greatest advantage in using a robot in battle is its natural resilience. As it is made out of steel and other metals, it can withstand much more damage than your average foot soldier. Plus it can take out multiple targets at once!

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-05 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[never!!!!

Anyway, this sounds like a combination of a Faceless and a Stoneborn, but more durable and actually something that can be controlled.]

How incredible. Having that sort of power at your disposal would certainly make you a fearsome foe indeed. The closest approximations we have are created from dark magic, but there are almost more flaws than benefits to using them. It sounds as though your technology solves the majority of the issues I've had with employing such tactics in the past.
ortion: (❀ contemplating)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-06 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Once he's done practically sparkling from the praise...]

What exactly do you create with your dark magic that is similar to my robots? Do you use organic materials to craft them?
psychophant: (✦ 96)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-06 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's correct. Stoneborn are golems created through... well, stone and dark magic. They can take quite a few hits and launch attacks from afar, but they're woefully inadequate the majority of the time.

Faceless are creatures summoned through dark magic alone. [and probably people. these things have souls somehow??] While they're better suited to battle, they are entirely unpredictable and controlling them is entirely too much of a hassle.

[He can do it, it's just difficult??]

They usually attack anything in sight and wander aimlessly until they find something else to fight. What you've created sounds much better suited to the battlefield, and seems to have more durability than even the Stoneborn.
ortion: (❀ dramatic sideglance)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-06 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. Golems, essentially. [Golems being his world's term for stoneborn.] Indeed, neither of those sound particularly useful when you want precision. Why bother with a lumbering monster when you can deal with problems yourself?

[Not that Dist's robots are indestructible either, but...they still sound a lot more efficient than golems and such.]

I take it technology has not progressed very far in your world yet? No offense, but these tactics do seem primitive.

[Or maybe full offense? He at least sounds like he pities Iago for having to deal with inadequate tools.]
psychophant: (✦ 33)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-06 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Precisely.

[which is clearly why he never actually does any of the work himself and makes everyone else do it for him, but that's fine!!]

Oh, they're certainly primitive and not strategies I'd ever want to employ, but for quite some time it was the only way to bypass the barrier Hoshido had set up. Desperate times, and all that.

[Handwave!! It's fine now.]

But yes, you're correct. My world is lacking in technology compared to your own, from the sound of it.

[To say nothing of what's present here...]
ortion: (❀ gorgeous)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-06 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[He gets it Iago, that's why he never actually personally fights. Robots all the way, baby.]

Well, I daresay I've blessed you with a bit of priceless knowledge, then! Granted, knowing about robots and building them are entirely different matters...

[But since Iago stroked his ego, he doesn't seem to be entirely unwilling to elaborate at any point.]
psychophant: (✦ 07)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-06 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps you'll enlighten me at some point, then? It certainly would be useful knowledge to have.

[well now we definitely need to make sure iago dies and stays dead, please don't let him bring robot technology back to nohr?????]
ortion: (❀ hairflip)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-06 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps.

[Said smugly, as though he's definitely expecting something in return for said knowledge.]

But I believe for now we should work on figuring out how to get back to our worlds to begin with.
psychophant: (✦ 04)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-06 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. With any luck, we may not need to be here for long.

[hahahahahaha.]
ortion: (❀ flippant)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-06 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, we can only hope. I have far too much to do back home, and I imagine you do as well.

[Hahaha.....ha.....]
psychophant: (✦ 23)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-06 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. There's entirely too much to do...

[sigh!!]

Anyway, I'm sure we'll run into each other again later— Oh.

[Right, right, introductions...]

My name is Iago. Despite the circumstances, I'm pleased to meet you.

[He presses a hand to his chest and nods which is... not exactly a proper bow by any stretch of the imagination, but probably good enough for government work.]
ortion: (❀ beginning of the end)

[personal profile] ortion 2020-01-06 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dist will give a proper bow, because...he's dramatic like that.]

Dist the Rose. I would give my full introduction, but I've already mentioned my status as a God-General, so!

[With a smirk,]

The pleasure is all mine, poor circumstances aside, yes. Ah, and feel free to simply call me Dist.
psychophant: (✦ 04)

[personal profile] psychophant 2020-01-06 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Very well then, Dist it is.

[He can appreciate the name, though. "The Rose" is a great title!]

As I said, I'm sure we'll run into each other later.

[And with that he's off!!]
